Interim Controller / Accounting DirectorLocation: La Plata, MD (Flexible Hybrid)Compensation: $75–$115/hourAbout the OpportunityWe are partnering with a growing organization seeking an experienced Interim Controller / Accounting Director to provide leadership and stability during a period of transition within the finance and accounting team.The organization is currently navigating several key personnel changes, including a Controller taking on expanded responsibilities, an Accounting Director on maternity leave, and an open accounting management position. This interim leader will play a critical role in ensuring continuity, maintaining strong financial operations, and supporting the accounting team through these changes.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processesManage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reportingProvide leadership, coaching, and oversight to accounting staffReview and improve accounting processes, controls, and workflowsPartner closely with finance leadership to support organizational objectivesEnsure timely completion of reconciliations, reporting, and compliance requirementsServe as a hands-on accounting leader who understands how all aspects of the close and accounting cycle come togetherQualificationsPrior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting DirectorStrong operational accounting and controllership backgroundDeep understanding of the month-end close process and financial statement preparationProven people management experience with direct reportsAbility to step into a dynamic environment and quickly add valueStrong leadership, communication, and organizational skillsWork ArrangementWhile there is flexibility regarding location, candidates who can be onsite in La Plata, MD at 1x/week — and more frequently during month-end close periods — will be strongly preferred.
