About the OpportunityGraystone Group is partnering with one of the Mid-Atlantic's leading private lending organizations to identify a Assistant Controller to join their growing finance team. With more than $2 billion in assets financed and a strong track record of growth, this organization provides real estate capital solutions to investors, developers, and commercial borrowers throughout the region.This position offers the opportunity to play a critical role in the financial operations of a high-volume lending platform. The Assistant Controller will own key aspects of the monthly close process, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and lending-related accounting activities while partnering closely with executive leadership and operational teams.This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and wants direct exposure to the financial operations of a sophisticated lending business.Key Responsibilities:Financial Reporting & General AccountingLead month-end and year-end close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records.Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement analyses.Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and technical accounting issues.Lending & Financial Services AccountingAccount for loan originations, fundings, payoffs, interest income, servicing fees, and other lending-related transactions.Reconcile and analyze loans receivable, warehouse facilities, investor accounts, and intercompany transactions.Monitor activity related to capital partners, warehouse lenders, and investor capital accounts.Support cash management, liquidity forecasting, and cash flow reporting.Analysis & Business SupportPrepare financial analyses, variance reporting, and operational insights for leadership.Assist with budgeting and forecasting by providing historical trends and financial data.Collaborate with lending, servicing, operations, and executive leadership teams to support strategic initiatives and business objectives.Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies.Compliance & Audit SupportEnsure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals by preparing schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to inquiries.Assist with annual audits and tax reporting processes.Leadership & Team SupportProvide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting team members.Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned.Qualifications:RequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.5+ years of progressive accounting experience.Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation.Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.PreferredCPA designation or active CPA candidate.Experience within private lending, mortgage lending, commercial finance, real estate finance, banking, or other financial services environments.Experience with loan accounting, investor accounting, or warehouse lending structures.Familiarity with accounting and financial reporting systems used within lending organizations.Why Consider This Opportunity?Join a highly successful and rapidly growing private lending platform.Gain exposure to complex lending and capital markets accounting.Work directly with experienced finance and executive leadership teams.Opportunity for professional growth and increased responsibility.Competitive compensation package with strong long-term career potential.Graystone Group is conducting the search on behalf of our client.
