Controller
Smith Industries and SI Utility are seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead and strengthen financial operations across fabrication and utility infrastructure projects. This role will work closely with executive leadership, operations, supply chain, and finance teams to oversee financial reporting, job costing, inventory controls, cash flow management, and operational financial performance as the organization continues to scale.The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing and project-based accounting experience, leadership capability, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment supporting multiple business segments.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & ControlsLead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processesPrepare and oversee financial statements, management reporting, and financial analysisMaintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial complianceSupport external audits, tax coordination, and financial reporting requirementsEnsure accuracy and integrity of financial data across business operationsManufacturing & Job Cost AccountingMonitor job costing processes across fabrication and utility operationsAnalyze labor, material, overhead, and production variancesManage WIP reporting and revenue recognition processesSupport project margin analysis and operational financial performance trackingPartner with operations leadership to improve cost visibility and reporting accuracyInventory & Material ControlOversee inventory reconciliation, cycle count programs, and inventory reserve analysisPartner with Supply Chain and Material Control teams to improve inventory accuracy and controlsDrive process improvements related to inventory tracking, material usage, and ERP reportingCash Flow & Working CapitalSupport AR/AP tracking and working capital initiativesSupport cash forecasting, liquidity planning, and financial reportingMonitor billing, collections, and project cash conversion metricsAssist leadership with financial planning and operational decision-makingQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required7+ years of accounting or finance experience preferredManufacturing, industrial, fabrication, EPC, or construction accounting experience strongly preferredExperience with ERP systems and inventory accounting requiredStrong Excel and financial modeling skills requiredExperience with Power BI, QuickBooks, or manufacturing ERP systems preferredCPA or CPA-track preferred but not requiredPreferred AttributesStrong analytical, organizational, and leadership skillsAbility to operate effectively in a fast-growth environmentComfortable partnering closely with operations and executive leadershipHands-on mindset with strong attention to detailAbility to manage multiple priorities and drive process improvementsCompensationCompetitive compensation package including salary, bonus opportunity, and benefits based on experience.
