The purpose of the Distribution Designer I position is to apply technical skills to design safe, cost effective and reliable distribution power facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepare project and job packages that include material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, site drawings and construction drawings for various installations of electrical facilities in a cost-effective manner that maximizes safety and service reliability.Read and interpret blueprints, maps, change orders, improvement plans, construction specifications, procedure manuals, operational procedures, etc.Perform drafting work and assist in the preparation of designs, plans and reports.Make accurate engineering calculations.Collect and analyze field data and prepare accurate and detailed reports and records.Learn, practice, and promote ALL safety policies and procedures 100% of the time.Apply various codes, requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures to all assigned work.Use various design software and work management tools.Evaluate distribution equipment such as transformers and fusing.Follow utility construction practices on public right of way (ROW) and private land.Regularly communicate job status to assure client expectations and deliverable dates are met.Coordinate with construction personnel and clients to resolve any project issues.Develop relationships with key internal and external customers while supporting both company and client's business goals and expectations while representing themselves both positively and professionally.Maintain files and records in an organized manner.Perform other duties as assigned by managementEducation, Skills, and Abilities RequiredHigh school diploma/GED is required. Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, design technology, or a related field (preferred).Proficient in basic principles and practices of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, general science and scales of weight and measurements as applied to engineer's computations and construction (using currency and other forms of measurement).Proficient user of Microsoft Office based applications.Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community.Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Utilized common-sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business information.Self-motivated, savvy, reliable, trustworthy, as well as technically competent.Demonstrated team player.Demonstrated time management skills.Effective oral and written communication skills.Ability to constructively manage multiple tasks.Possess valid driver's license and vehicle suitable for business use (mileage reimbursement may apply).Ability to participate in storm restoration activities as a "Driver", "Wire Guard" or "Assessor" if needed.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This role will be required to regularly, walk up to 2 miles per day. The role will also occasionally sit, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms, and will occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.Working Environment: This role will have both an indoor normal climate-controlled office setting as well as outside working conditions which may include extreme heat, extreme cold, noise, and sun exposure.Proper Personal Equipment: Hard hat, safety glasses, work gloves, ID card, cellular phone, EH rated footwear with toe box OSHA Ratings, PVD's, DRG Safety Traffic Vest.Career ProgressionThe Engineering Technologist I is the first working level in the Engineering department. Incumbents will have 0-3 years of experience and perform routine tasks independently and receive closer supervision when assisting in more complex engineering tasks.
