We inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds to enhance their social, physical, intellectual and spiritual well-being through programs of excellence rooted in Jewish values.Core Responsibilities include:Supervision and EngagementSupervise and engage with all participants (ages 4-21) in programs and activities while under the position's care.Know how many participants are under the position's care and know who and where they are at all times.Be an active participant by fully engaging during the Lessans Camp JCC day (e.g., playing games, modeling positive behavior, and knowing campers' names).Assist the aquatics staff during instructional swim and recreational swim with active supervision of your assigned campersActively participate in specialist-led activities by joining in, demonstrating enthusiasm, helping campers as needed, and ensuring everyone stays involved and on task.Leadership and Professional DevelopmentCreatively plan and lead group activity time.Effectively motivate and delegate responsibilities as needed.Demonstrate emerging leadership skills while assisting with leading the group.Camper CareCollaborate with counselors, unit leadership, and the Health Room to manage camper allergies within your groupAssist campers with changing into and out of swim clothing in the locker rooms.Assist campers with reapplying sunscreen and provide reminders to rehydrate throughout the Lessans Camp JCC day.Assist with managing concerns of assigned campers related to their social/emotional wellbeing.Work effectively with co counselor(s) to ensure the physical, mental, and social well-being of all campers.Preparation, Planning, and OrganizationTake daily attendance and return to the camp office daily.Assist in the planning and leading of group activity time and downtime.Combine efforts with other staff members to ensure programs and activities run smoothly.Participate in the daily clean-up of the program area.Communication and AttendanceAttend all required sessions, orientations, staff meetings, late stays, and trips planned for the group(s).Qualifications include:Ability to take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems.Ability to effectively and in a timely manner respond to requests from others.Ability to get on the floor to participate and supervise activities.Ability to spend your camp day outdoors and walk and travel long distances.Ability to move equipment and supplies as required.Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.Be accepting of, and sensitive to the diverse racial, national, sexual orientation, gender identity, abilities, religious and cultural backgrounds of everyone at Lessans Camp JCCWillingness to be flexible and adapt to changes in schedule, responsibilities, and Lessans Camp JCC activities as needed.Priority will be given to candidates who are available the entire camp season starting on June 15 going through August 7.Additional InformationThe salary range for this position is $4,000 - $5,000 (total pay for the regular camp season).
