Structural Engineer

This position will lead structural engineering assignments involving highway bridges and miscellaneous transportation structures. The engineer will develop calculations, plans, specifications, and schedules while coordinating with clients, contractors, subconsultants, municipalities, utility companies, and regulatory agencies.The ideal candidate has experience working on FDOT or similar state transportation agency projects and can manage assignments from initial concept through final design and construction. This role also provides opportunities to mentor junior engineers, participate in technical meetings, and contribute to long-term client relationships.Key ResponsibilitiesManage structural engineering assignments for transportation infrastructure projectsLead the design of highway bridges and miscellaneous transportation structuresDevelop structural design concepts, criteria, calculations, plans, drawings, specifications, and schedulesRepresent the engineering team during technical meetings with clients, contractors, agencies, municipalities, and other project stakeholdersServe as a primary client contact and maintain clear communication throughout each projectCoordinate structural work with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, utility, and other engineering disciplinesManage subconsultants and obtain the technical information required to advance project deliverablesPrepare and review contract documents, construction plans, technical specifications, permit applications, and approval packagesSupport bridge inspections, structural evaluations, rehabilitation recommendations, and maintenance-related assignmentsProvide bid-phase assistance, respond to RFIs, and perform post-design engineering services during constructionEvaluate field conditions and make sound recommendations regarding design changesMonitor project scope, schedules, budgets, quality, and technical deliverablesManage multiple assignments while adapting to changing project conditions and deadlinesReview the work of junior engineers and designersProvide technical guidance, mentorship, and professional development support to junior staffMaintain compliance with applicable FDOT requirements, design standards, codes, and quality-control proceduresRequired ExperienceAt least 5 years of structural engineering experience involving transportation infrastructurePrevious experience working on FDOT or another state Department of Transportation projectDemonstrated bridge or miscellaneous transportation structures design experienceExperience preparing engineering calculations, construction drawings, specifications, and contract documentsAbility to manage structural design tasks or multidisciplinary engineering assignmentsExperience coordinating with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and government agenciesAbility to review technical work and provide guidance to junior team membersStrong understanding of structural engineering principles, design codes, standards, and industry proceduresAbility to manage multiple projects and make independent technical decisionsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering disciplineActive Professional Engineer license in the State of FloridaProficiency with AutoCAD or Civil 3DProficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and ExcelStrong written, verbal, organizational, and client-facing communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary teamPreferred QualificationsExperience leading complex, multidisciplinary transportation projectsExtensive FDOT bridge design or transportation structures experienceExperience with bridge inspection, rehabilitation, maintenance, or post-design construction servicesMicroStation experienceMathcad experienceExperience mentoring engineers, designers, or technical staffFamiliarity with FDOT design manuals, specifications, production standards, and project-delivery proceduresDesired Skills and ExperienceOscar Associates Limited (US) is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy.
