Trenchless Engineer

Overview As a Trenchless Engineer within HDR’s national Trenchless Services team, you will guide engineering, design and field activities across trenchless installations. You’ll support feasibility, front-end data collection, geotechnical work, and constructability evaluations while managing quality, risk, and client communications. This role blends design, field oversight, and project management to drive successful trenchless projects from planning through construction. You’ll work with cross-functional specialists to apply HDR standards and deliver sustainable, safe solutions. This is an opportunity to grow professionally while contributing to HDR’s mission to make a world-class impact through our艔 ResponsibilitiesPerform desk top route selection and evaluate design/construction feasibility for trenchless crossingsConduct site reconnaissance and develop subsurface investigation programsAssess surface/subsurface conditions to select trenchless methods and techniquesCoordinate with geotechnical, CAD, and production teams to develop trenchless design deliverablesInterface with clients on project status and technical discussionsEstimate material quantities and installation loads for trenchless pipelinesEvaluate trenchless technologies (e.g., HDD, microtunneling, Direct Pipe) for method selectionPrepare/review project documents including specs, drawings, reports, and data setsUtilize software models for trenchless design and manage data qualityManage subconsultants, procure services, and oversee field construction activitiesEnsure compliance with industry standards and governing codesContribute to department standards, lessons learned, and project delivery processesSupport PMO-aligned project execution and cross-project workflow Key requirementsBachelor degreeProfessional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) licenseExperience with Microsoft Office; MicroStation or similar softwareExperience with GeoStudio/Ensoft slope stability, settlement, seepage, and deep foundation toolsBentley geotechnical visualization software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog)10+ years of professional experience in consulting/engineering, trenchless methods preferredAbility to travel as required and work in field environmentsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAutonomy with remote collaboration across multiple officesAccountability and customer service orientationTeam orientedStrong written and interpersonal skillsSelf-motivated and autonomous work styleAutoCAD Civil 3DGeoStudio/Ensoft applicationsBentley suite (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog)
