Plumbing Instructor

Job Description Job Summary:The Plumbing instructor's main focus is to instruct according to the curriculum outline, update and enhance the plumbing curriculum, maintain and develop hands-on exercises and exams. Essential Functions:&middot; Update and enhance the existing Plumbing curriculum annually, consistent with the current Plumbing code, including exams, class assignments, and hands-on training.&middot; Maintain digital lesson plans and binder versions, with instructions, text, and code book references and quizzes for years 1 -4 curriculum.&middot; Maintain digital coursework, whereby instructional materials are electronic and students interface with computers.&middot; Maintain vendor relationships and schedule vendor demonstrations and field trips.&middot; Create and maintain a Journey Level Certification examination with drawings and update yearly as needed according to Plumbing code revisions.&middot; Identify and train substitute instructors.&middot; Design, build, and maintain training labs, including any needed upgrades, equipment, and supplies.&middot; Teach classes, attend local and out-of-town job site safety visits, coordinate and attend field trips, and attend trade shows and career fairs as schedule allows.&middot; Maintain and execute the plumbing contest, including coordination of judges, scoring criteria, awards, supplies, materials, and logistics. Possible travel to attend the national contest.&middot; Produce school reports for committee meetings.&middot; Produce and maintain a student grade system for each apprentice grade level/class.&middot; Attend meetings about code development as needed.&middot; Produce and maintain class documentation for each apprentice grade level/class. Knowledge, Skills and Experience:&middot; Valid CA driver's license a must.&middot; High school diploma or GED equivalent&middot; Experience with on-the-job training an apprentice, required&middot; Minimum 10 years Plumbing experience, including new construction in both commercial and residential applications, service, and repair&middot; Graduate of an apprenticeship program, state-approved preferred&middot; Experience teaching; experience with apprenticeship programs a plus&middot; Strong computer and organizational skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and AutoCAD&middot; Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills&middot; Strong leadership and time management skills&middot; Ability to work independently and as a team player, self-motivated, with strong leadership skills.&middot; Ability and willingness to follow procedures, reporting and compliance processes; identify improvements and make changes. Physical Demands:Bending, reaching, lifting various materials (up to 40 lbs.), sitting and standing for long periods of time, using office equipment and computers. Safe operation and use of standard office equipment, including sharp objects. Able to communicate by phone, e-mail, and in-person to small and large groups. Accuracy and concentration are required, and sometimes with multiple distractions in the immediate area. The position requires travel with some evening and weekend work and driving a personal vehicle.
