Mosquito Study Public Health Internship
POSITION AVAILABLE: Environmental Health InternA seasonal summer position is available in the Environmental division.HOURS: Be available Monday – Friday variable hours between 8:00am– 4:30pm and intermittent hours may be needed on weekends or after hours.Paid Position: $18.00/hour and mileage reimbursementJOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Work under the direction of SCPH Environmental Director & SCPH mosquito control coordinator to perform mosquito monitoring activity, present information and resources to the public, work to prevent disease in the community. Set and collect adult mosquito surveillance traps, travel throughout the county as needed for other duties prepare mosquito samples for shipment, water samples, apply larval control products as necessary, attend community outreach events, investigate mosquito nuisances, present information at the end of the season to the Board of Health. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: Current college student interested in helping the county conduct mosquito prevention and monitoring activities. A student pursuing a degree in Biology, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or Public Health is preferred. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Ability to use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, and/or process information.
