This is an exceptional opportunity to practice meaningful, relationship-based care with schedule stability, strong clinical support, and access to comprehensive federal benefits.Position HighlightsProvide inpatient and outpatient hospice & palliative care to Veterans with serious, advanced, and life-limiting illnessesWork within a dedicated 12 bed inpatient hospice unit (Togus Springs) on the VA Maine campusFour 10 hour day shifts, MondayFridayWeekend home call only every 68 weeksCollaborative team environment with nursing, administrative, social work, and chaplain supportParticipate in program development, quality improvement, and expansion of palliative care servicesOpportunities to teach and mentor fellows, residents, medical students, and hospice staffPrimary ResponsibilitiesProvide comprehensive hospice and palliative care across inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, home hospice, and telehealth settingsManage complex pain and non-pain symptoms while supporting physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needsDeliver inpatient and outpatient palliative care consultations, including goals-of-care discussions and end-of-life planningParticipate in weekend on-call rotation and respond to after-hours needsCollaborate with an integrated interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered careTeach, mentor, and supervise learners as part of Graduate Medical EducationSupport program development and ensure compliance with VHA standards and national hospice/palliative care guidelinesCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary: $200,000$315,000Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) eligibility up to $200,000Federal benefits package including:Health, dental, vision insuranceFederal retirement with matching contributionsPaid federal holidays and generous annual leaveMalpractice coverageContinuing education supportPotential for:Performance-based payRecruitment, relocation, or retention incentivesAdditional on-call or extended-coverage compensationQualificationsMD or DO from an accredited medical schoolU.S. citizenship requiredBoard eligible in Hospice & Palliative Medicine upon hire; board certification within two yearsCurrent, full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territoryEligibility for VA credentialing and privilegingDemonstrated experience caring for patients with advanced or life-limiting illnessStrong interpersonal and communication skillsExperience in teaching, mentoring, or supervising trainees (preferred)
