Engineering Manager

Title of Position: Manager of Engineering Department: Engineering Department Summary of Role and Function: The Engineering Manager is responsible for closely coordinating engineering and project management initiatives with the organizational production supply chain. The Engineering Manager will establish departmental goals and evaluate performance as well as defining work flows, job descriptions, responsibilities, and reporting relationships. Developing and implementing long term engineering goals and visions in alignment with the organizational supply chain is essential to the Engineering Managers responsibility. The Engineering Manager is responsible for providing organizational project support through direct assistance and leading customer solutions projects. The Engineering manager will identify, initiate, and prioritize project elements such as product improvements, enhancements, gathering customer requirements, developing functional designs, and defining solutions. Additionally, the Engineering Manager will be the project liaison among Engineering, Project Management, and Operations. All managers and supervisors are responsible for actively participating in the completion of quality audits and the annual management review, working together to ensure these requirements are met in the event there is no designated Quality Manager on staff. Job Description: 1. Key Duties: Manage cross functional Design Engineers, Drafters, Project Managers, and Engineering Technicians through departmental and individual meetings to establish goals, expectations, and evaluating performance Define and establish engineering department goals, responsibilities, and reporting structure  Develop and implement a long‐term departmental vision ensuring optimal departmental organization, product development, and supply chain support  Work closely with the Project Management team to ensure projects are on time, within budget, and meet customer requirements  Work closely with the Sales Team to ensure engineering resources have been properly accounted for in cost workups  Design new products & improvements for current products.  Design products for ease of manufacturability with an emphasis on customer satisfaction, quality, & cost  Coordinate with Operations to ensure production Bills of Material and Routings are complete, ready for production, and within organizational supply chain goals  Ensure all engineering product requirements including Bills of Materials, engineering specifications, routings, etc. are entered within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system  Identify process / value stream gaps within the engineering department and develop / implement departmental solutions ensuring all processes are documented and engineering personnel are trained  Other duties as assigned 2. Key Responsibilities:  Responsible for conducting departmental design reviews internally and / or with client participation  Ensure the engineering department is properly staffed to efficiently realize departmental goals and scope  Responsible for assisting and mentoring junior and mid‐level engineers  Responsible for basic project management such as defining goals, milestones, resources, and monitoring budgets in alignment with Operations  Provide all production product requirements including but not limited to: engineering detail drawings, tolerances, material specifications, Bills of Material, & routings with an emphasis on Lean Manufacturing and ISO 9001:2008 manufacturing principles  Work within a team environment to achieve project goals, targeted cost, on time customer delivery, and overall customer satisfaction 3. Key Qualifications: a. Required Prerequisites i. Education 1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering ii. Applicable Experience 1. Minimum 10 years’ experience b. Required Knowledge i. Knowledge of and experience in use of codes and standards including: 1. NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) including; a. Article 110, Requirements for Electrical Installations b. Article 310, Conductors for General Wiring c. Article 312, Cabinets, Cutout Boxes, and Meter Socket Enclosures d. Article 408, Switchboards, Switchgear, and Panelboards e. Article 409, Industrial Control Panels 2. UL Standards a. UL 50/50E (Standard for Enclosures for Electrical Equipment) b. UL 508 (Standard for Industrial Control Equipment) c. UL 67 (Panelboards) d. UL 891 (Standard for Dead‐Front Switchboards) e. UL 1558 (Standard for Metal‐Enclosed Low‐Voltage Power Circuit Breaker Switchgear) f. UL 1008 (Standard for Transfer Switch Equipment) 3. IEC Standards a. IEC 61439 (Low‐voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies) 4. Knowledge of utility requirements and local, state, and federal codes governing the installation and use of low voltage switchboards / switchgear c. Required Skills i. Experience with 3‐D & 2‐D design systems; direct experience with AutoCAD and Inventor preferred ii. Experience programming using ladder logic & function block a plus iii. Extensive skill in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint iv. Must have a basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook v. Extensive skill in using ERP software preferred vi. Must have well developed organizational skills, attention to detail, and direct project accountability vii. Advanced analytical and problem‐solving skills viii. Proven leadership skills d. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and internal customers iii. Must be capable of writing reports, procedures, and effectively communicate conceptual design iv. Ideal candidates must be comfortable with clients & capable of effectively sharing client points of view & expertise v. Must have the ability to take a design from concept to reproducibility vi. The ideal candidate should have moderate project management skills including the ability to draft a statement of work, maintain budgets, maintain timelines / milestones, and analyze whether a project will achieve its intended goals vii. Ability to allocate resources in order to meet project goals is critical viii. Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists ix. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with other employees x. Ability to pay close attention to detail and accurately perform daily job duties xi. An ability to think clearly and make informed decisions in high stress environments xii. Domestic and international travel to customer job sites will be required occasionally for engineering surveys Job Type: Full-time Pay: $145,000.00 - $165,000.00 per year Schedule: Monday to Friday Work Location: In person
