Overview How you can make a difference The Sr. Corporate Counsel is a key member of HealthEquity's Legal Department, with a focus on providing employment and other legal advice to business leaders and the People Team; coordinating and responding to commercial and employment litigation and charges; and assisting with whistleblower hotline and other complaint responses. What you'll be doing Support Associate General Counsel in managing commercial and employment litigation, including managing retained outside counsel, coordinating legal holds and discovery responses, investigating and responding to attorney demand letters, and effectively navigating and negotiating resolution of claims Handle or coordinate unemployment appeal hearings Handle or coordinate subpoena responses Investigate and defend charges of discrimination, wage/hour audits, and other regulatory complaints, including preparing position statements and other responsive documents Actively monitor, research, and track employment and related law changes under federal, state, and local laws to ensure policies and practices are compliant; provide updates or trainings on same Provide counsel on the full range of employment issues, including hiring, background checks, contingent worker relationships, performance management, team member relations, discipline and terminations, leaves of absence and accommodations, internal investigations, wage and hour, compensation, benefits, safety, and privacy Draft separation agreements, other employment‑related agreements, letters, and other communications Draft or revise workplace policies, programs, procedures, and templates for the People Team and other departments Develop and deliver employment law training to leaders and others Assist in coordinating responses to and investigation of whistleblower and other legal complaints Conduct research and prepare research memos and updates as assigned What you will need to be successful Licensed to practice law in any US jurisdiction Strong academic credentials, with JD from a leading law school Minimum of 7 years of experience in an employment law department at a large law firm and/or in‑house with relevant subject matter; experience in both a plus Knowledge of Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, OSHA, state laws, whistleblower laws, and other employment/benefits laws Knowledge of the Federal (and applicable state) Rules of Civil Procedure Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively work with various departments and levels within HealthEquity (including the People Team and senior management) Strong research and analysis skills Team attitude that no job is too big or too small Thrives in a “roll‑up your sleeves and own the outcome” environment Ability to strike sensible and practical balance between legal risks and the need to do business Adept at working in a fast‑paced, high‑activity environment with smart and creative people Strong ability to influence, provide point of view, and listen Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information Ability to handle ambiguity, juggle many matters at once, and quickly shift from one situation or task to another Solution oriented and talent for thinking outside of the box in confronting new issues and pursuing novel approaches to old problem Work requires normal range of hearing, vision and verbal communication skills, with or without a reasonable accommodation The ability to perform work at a computer station for 6‑8+ hours a day and function in an environment with frequent interruptions is required Occasional travel may be required Salary Range $151,500.00 – $200,500.00 / year Benefits & Perks The actual compensation offer is determined based on job‑related knowledge, education, skills, experience, and work location.
