Legal Counsel

Our client is a growing wealth management firm. The ideal candidate will be primarily responsible for estate planning matters in addition to other in-house legal matters including drafting agreements, addressing compliance issues, corporate governance and commercial contracts. In order to succeed, this candidate should feel comfortable working with lean in-house department and outside counsel on a variety of legal matters.ResponsibilitiesImplement irrevocable trust and asset protection structures for clientsDraft and implement comprehensive estate plans, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and related wealth transfer strategiesNegotiate and draft documents highly customized to each individual client's needsAdvise clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax considerationsAssist business owner clients with succession planning strategies and ownership transfer structuresCollaborate with internal advisors on tax strategy, investment planning, and family governance mattersProvide legal guidance related to corporate governance structures, shareholder agreements, and entity structuringSupport clients in implementing asset protection and wealth preservation strategiesReview and analyze existing estate planning documents and recommend updates where appropriateCoordinate with outside counsel, accountants, and other professional advisors when neededStay current on legislative and regulatory developments impacting estate and tax planningAbility to communicate complex legal considerations to non-attorneys in a clear and efficient mannerQualificationsJ.D. from an accredited law school3+ years' estate planning experience with a law firm or in-houseExperience working with high net worth clientsStrong understanding of federal estate and gift tax principlesAdmission to Texas State BarLLM in Taxation preferred
