School Marshal
Primary Purpose:Under general supervision, provide security and protection for students, staff, and visitors, and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High school diploma or GED requiredA First Aid and CPR CertificateA clear criminal background checkThe ability to counsel and interact with children and teenagersClear and valid License to Carry through DPSMust be able to pass a psychological examAbility to attend and pass 80 hours of School Marshal training at the district's expenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to clearly and accurately record informationAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsAbility to work effectively with youths and adultsAbility to communicate effectivelyExperience:* Security Officer commissioned by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), or equivalent experience in law enforcement, private security, or military service, preferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Safety ManagementPatrol assigned campus(es) and/or district facilities. Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules related to student conduct, vehicle operation, and parking.Resolve conflict or confrontation between students and report disturbances to principal or assistant principal.Conduct campus-level safety audits and assist with the implementation and completion of required safety drills in coordination with the School Safety and Security Coordinator.Control traffic and parking on district grounds during school hours and at after-hours events.Document incidents in security logs and compile and file required reports.Security and ParkingWork cooperatively with office personnel to inform students of problems with vehicles (i.e., improperly parked, lights on, etc.)Assist law enforcement personnel as needed.Give directions or act as a guide to authorized visitors.Notify police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate attention.Operate all equipment including firearms according to established safety procedures.Maintain and secure weapons at all times.Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripheralsPosture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Strenuous walking and climbing stairs; occasional keyboarding and use of mouse, moderate drivingLifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds)Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); moderate exposure to noise and vehicle exhaust; frequent districtwide travelOther: Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneouslyMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, prolonged hours;This document describes the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.
