We work in a fast-paced data-focused environment where Data Scientists are given runway to own big projects and drive impact across the Maps organization.DescriptionWe are looking for a talented, experienced Data Scientist to join our cross-functional team, focusing on the deep evaluation of Apple Maps search services, features, monetization initiatives and Apple Business. You'll partner closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and Marketing to define success metrics, evaluate product performance, understand user behavior, and business opportunities, and drive data-informed decisions. Our day-to-day work crosses many functional areas, including experiment design, AB testing, funnel analysis, other exploratory data analysis, AI/ML modeling, data mining, and more.ResponsibilitiesBuild data products (feature datasets, analyses, models, etc.) and scalable tools (typically in Python or Scala) to drive hypothesis generation and support collaborative decision-making with our partner teams in Product, Design, Engineering, and MarketingDesign, create and validate actionable metrics, at both the component level and to measure overall user engagement and experienceSupport monetization strategy by analyzing user behavior, product performance, and business opportunitiesDesign effective analyses or experiments for evaluating complex data, machine learning-based systems, and measure how monetization efforts affect user engagement and satisfactionDevelop models and analyses to mine large volume of data, extract insights, and recommend opportunities for product improvementsAutomate analyses and pipelines via SQL and Python/Scala-based ETL frameworksCommunicate insights to partner teams to influence product direction with dataUse data intuition to translate hard product goals and business problems into solvable data science problemsMinimum QualificationsMS/PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, or similar quantitative domain3+ years experience with data analysis at web scale or relevant work experienceProficient in PythonProficient in at least one database language (e.g., SQL, Snowflake)Capable of translating business questions and needs into technical requirements, and using statistical techniques to find solutionsSolid communication and presentation skillsPreferred QualificationsPrior industry experience with AB testing and causal inferenceExperience in information retrievalPrior proven industry experience with large data sets using technologies like Hadoop and SparkExperience writing pipelines for automating analytics tasks at scaleExperience mentoring junior data scientists and leading projects of varying sizes and scopesExperience with monetization analyticsPay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $141,800 and $258,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
