Propagation Technician

McKay Nursery Company is a 100% employee-owned (ESOP) business headquartered in Waterloo, Wisconsin. Since 1897, McKay has been growing quality plants for wholesale and retail customers throughout the United States. POSITION DESCRIPTION At McKay Nursery Company our propagation department supplies about 85% of the plant material for our retail, wholesale, and landscape services departments. We are actively searching for an energetic, self-motivated, person to join our propagation team. We currently have a full-time Propagator position available in our propagation department located in Waterloo, WI. It includes health, dental and life insurance, paid holidays and paid time off. RESPONSIBILITIES Assisting in all aspects of woody ornamental propagation including but not limited to: collection of plant material, processing of propagules, plant care, chemical application, maintenance and repair of facility and equipment. Assisting the propagation manager in all aspects of propagation. Working with the crew to plant, grow, harvest, and store our softwood, hardwood and seedling material. Contributing when needed in all nursery production roles not limited to weeding, watering, implementing IPM, transporting plant material, and general plant care. BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE Associates degree in horticulture or other related fields or similar experience working in a related field. Understanding of propagation and plant care. Experience in greenhouse operations. Speaking Spanish is a plus. Some experience with growing plants and plant care. Ability to work independently as well as with the rest of the propagation team. Must be capable of following detailed instruction, making accurate measurements, and collecting detailed data. The employee must be willing to be certified as a greenhouse pesticide applicator as well as skid steer training.
