Transportation & Safety Coordinator

Primary Purpose:Direct and manage district's transportation operations. Ensure safe and efficient operation oftransportation department. Oversee maintenance of all district-owned vehicles. Responsible for theoverall management, strategic planning, development, evaluation, and implementation of thedistrict's safety and security program. Manage the delivery of transportation services for students and ensure they are picked up and arrivesafely and on time.2. Oversee preparation and updating of bus routes and schedules for all schools in district and developplans to meet future transportation needs.3. Communicate changes in routes and scheduling to campuses and the public when warranted.4. Coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities and special programs.5. Assign bus drivers to routes and extracurricular trips and find substitutes as needed.6. Monitor fuel deliveries and distribution.7. Oversee repair of all district-owned vehicles and preventive maintenance. Ensure vehicle repairrequests and work orders are prioritized and processed in a timely manner. Contract for outsideservices that cannot be performed in shop.Safety and Security8. Provide leadership for the development, planning, and implementation of the districtwide schoolsafety and security program.9. Responsible for district safety, emergency management, NIMS, and ICS, training of administrators,staff, and volunteers.10. Develop and provide guidance to campuses and other facilities for emergency procedure drills. Planand coordinate drills with all instructional and non-instructional facilities to ensure readiness whenneeded.11. Help to develop agendas and works with the chair of the school safety and security committee;prepare the committee to staff the Emergency Operations Center.12. Assist with the annual review of the district emergency management plan using data, state guidance,and stakeholder feedback to assess effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.13. Inform campus leaders of the status of campus preparedness and planning for weather-related orunexpected emergencies. Monitor weather and approaching storms and makes recommendations ifthe weather is likely to alter campus class schedules or affect campus events.14. Assess availability of appropriate technologies for emergency response, including testing emergencycommunication technologies, tracking and analyzing the speed of communications, timing ofmessages, and communication delays.15. Act as the district liaison with local law enforcement, fire agencies, emergency management officials,and community leaders involved in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.16. May serve on district behavioral threat assessment and safe and supportive schools team.Policy, Reports, and Laws17. Oversee development, maintenance, and implementation of the district's multi-hazard emergencyoperations plan; ensure campus plans are up-to-date and in compliance with the latest standards inemergency response.18. Implement federal and state laws and regulations, State Board of Education rule, local board policy,and insurance regulations and ensure compliance.19. Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.20. Prepare, process, and maintain all documents required to verify safety certification and alcohol anddrug testing of bus drivers.21. Ensure employee time records are accurately maintained and data necessary to processtransportation payroll is delivered in a timely manner.22. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Budget and Inventory23. Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure operations are cost effectiveand funds are managed wisely.24. Maintain current inventory of supplies and parts and initiate purchases in accordance with budgetarylimitations and district policies. Approve and forward invoices for transportation to accountingdepartment.25. Recommend disposal of obsolete or worn-out vehicles and equipment. Recommend purchase ofvehicles as necessary.Student Management26. Implement district's student discipline policies and ensure expectations about appropriate behaviorwhen using district transportation are communicated to students. Enforce student discipline andsuspension of riding privileges for any student who violates rules and regulations.27. Investigate reported concerns and take appropriate action to resolve issues.Personnel28. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment,retention, discipline, and dismissal.29. Prepare, review, and revise transportation department job descriptions.Safety30. Enforce safety standards that conform with state, federal, and insurance regulations and develop aprogram of preventive safety.31. Assess road conditions and hazards and advise administration about inclement weather conditionsthat may result in delayed starts or the closing of schools.32. Investigate school bus accidents and student safety violations.33. Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations.34. Organize and conduct training programs to promote a safe work environment.35. Ensure transportation equipment is in excellent operating condition.36. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Communication37. Ensure that established goals and expectations related to district safety and security arecommunicated clearly, consistently, and in a timely manner to all appropriate stakeholders.38. Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations regarding security and safety issues to the board,staff, and community, as required.Other39. Participate in development of the district's disaster plan and be prepared to take an active role inresponding to emergencies as needed.40. Attend and make presentations at conferences and school board meetings regarding transportationissues and innovations.41.
