Elementary Physical Education Teacher

Primary Purpose:To provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in physical education that help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The PE teacher will enable students to develop motor skills, coordination, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for health and fitness.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityValid state teaching certification in Physical Education (EC-6 or appropriate grade level)Demonstrated knowledge of physical education curriculum and instructionCPR/First Aid certification (preferred or required by district) Key Responsibilities:Instructional Planning & Delivery:Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards (e.g., TEKS in Texas)Provide instruction in a variety of physical activities (e.g., games, sports, fitness, movement skills)Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and abilitiesPromote physical fitness, health, and wellness concepts Classroom & Behavior Management:Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environmentManage student behavior in accordance with district policiesEnsure proper use and care of equipment and facilities Assessment & Evaluation:Assess student progress in physical fitness, motor skills, and participationMaintain accurate records of student performanceProvide feedback to students, parents, and staff as needed Safety & Supervision:Enforce safety rules and procedures during all physical activitiesMonitor students to prevent injuries and respond appropriately when incidents occurMaintain inventory and inspect equipment regularly Collaboration & Communication:Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, staff, and administrationCommunicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and concernsParticipate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events Professional Responsibilities:Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional developmentComply with district, state, and federal policies and regulationsServe as a positive role model for students Working Conditions:Indoor (gymnasium) and outdoor environmentsExposure to varying weather conditionsModerate physical activity including standing, walking, lifting, and demonstrating exercises Skills & Abilities:Strong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to motivate and engage young learnersKnowledge of child development and age-appropriate physical activitiesOrganizational and time management skills Additional Duties:Assist with school-wide events (field day, fitness programs, etc.)Perform other duties as assigned by the principal
