Electrical Engineer - Distribution Operations

Job Title: Electrical Distribution EngineerLocation: San Ramon, CA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)Duration: 12 months ContractLocal Candidates OnlyAbout the RoleWe are seeking a highly analytical Electrical Engineer to support advanced grid reliability and asset intelligence initiatives. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong knowledge of electric distribution systems who can leverage data insights to identify and prioritize transformer and electrical line defects before failures occur.The selected candidate will work closely with engineering, field operations, and cross-functional technical teams to analyze smart meter data, predictive alerts, and historical operational datasets to improve asset health monitoring and predictive maintenance strategies.Key ResponsibilitiesAnalyze Smart Meter data, predictive alerts, and operational datasets to identify potential transformer defects and overhead/underground electrical line issues.Translate complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations for field operations and asset management teams.Apply knowledge of electric distribution systems, including line equipment, protective devices, and system operations, to validate predictive outcomes.Perform distribution power flow analysis and support engineering assessments.Work with large datasets, including:Historical defect/failure dataInspection and maintenance recordsOperational and performance dataImprove predictive model accuracy and help reduce false positives through engineering validation and investigative analysis.Collaborate with Field Operations, Protection & Control, and Engineering teams to validate machine learning-driven predictions.Conduct root-cause investigations and provide technical recommendations for corrective action.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (B.S. in EE)Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsFamiliarity with:Electric distribution line equipmentProtective device settingsElectric distribution operationsDistribution power flow analysisExperience interpreting utility operational data and translating insights into engineering actionsExperience working with large datasets and data-driven decision-makingStrong investigative and troubleshooting abilitiesAbility to collaborate effectively across technical and field teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting utility asset management or grid reliability initiativesExposure to predictive analytics or machine learning applications in utility engineeringKnowledge of transformer health monitoring and defect identificationFamiliarity with overhead and underground electric distribution systemsWork ArrangementHybrid schedule: 3 days onsite in San Ramon, CALocal candidates only
