POSITION: Teacher Assistant ISSEXEMPT STATUS: Non-ExemptPAY GRADE: Instructional PG-1DIVISION: AcademicDEPARTMENT: Learning, Leading, and InnovationREPORTS TO: Principal and Teachers AssignedSUPERVISES: NoneEDUCATION:High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of an accredited college or universityEducational Aide Certificate from state of TexasEXPERIENCE: Ability to work well with childrenPosition Function/PurposeSupervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher on a daily basis.Major Responsibilities1. Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured environment.2. Work with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher.3. Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.4. Distribute, collect and check student assignments for accuracy.5. Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers.6. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).7. Record student attendance and discipline referrals using computer.8. Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and bathroom breaks.9. Maintain confidentiality.10. Participate in staff development training program, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.11. All other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or DAEP Teacher.Qualification Requirements1. High School Diploma or GED2. 30 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR meets NCLB requirements for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals.Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for the educational aide certificate shall1. hold a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school diploma, or higher;2. have satisfied one of the following requirements:a. have three creditable years of experience, as defined in Chapter 153, Subchapter CC, of this title (relating to Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service), as either an educational aide I or II; or b. have completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas;3.and have experience working with students and parents as approved by the employing superintendent.4. Possess or apply for SBEC paraprofessional certificate (personal expense)5. Ability to work well with children6. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions7.
