Platform Development Software Engineer

Overview In this role you will evolve a legacy Tomcat web application into a cloud-native, Kubernetes-based microservices platform. You’ll redesign core services using Golang and Angular, while maintaining the existing system and guiding the transition. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable delivery, and drive modern software practices including CI/CD. This high-visibility position offers impact across architecture, delivery, and technical strategy within a mission-focused environment. ResponsibilitiesMaintain and enhance a legacy Tomcat web application while planning its transition to a cloud-native architectureRedesign deployment to Kubernetes for scalability and securityRefactor monolithic code into modular microservices and integrate modern enterprise servicesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration of new servicesDevelop components using Java (8/21) and frontend tech (Angular, Bootstrap, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, JQuery)Implement new architecture with Golang-based services and Angular frontendDocument designs, integration requirements, and transition processesDrive agile practices and support CI/CD pipelinesOversee software process evolution from development to deploymentEngage in continuous process improvement for quality, performance, and reliabilityCommunicate complex designs effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholdersMaintain awareness of security and compliance in deployment and architecture Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field5+ years hands-on software engineering experienceProficiency in Java development (Java 8 and Java 21) including JSP, JSTL, CDI, and SpringExperience maintaining and modernizing web apps in Tomcat and Kubernetes environmentsStrong frontend skills (Angular, Bootstrap 4/5, CSS, SCSS, JavaScript, JQuery)Experience refactoring monoliths into microservices and integrating enterprise servicesFamiliarity with container orchestration and deployment best practicesStrong problem-solving and communication skillsU.S. Citizenship and openness to TS/SCI clearance; active TS/SCI desiredstrong communication skillscollaboration across teamsproblem-solving mindsetJava 8 and Java 21JSP, JSTL, CDI, SpringTomcat
