Sport Specialist- Adeline Wright Graham Clubhouse PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Sports Specialist is responsible for guaranteeing that Boys & Girls Club members are provided physical education, in a fun and safe environment. It’s the Sports Specialist’s responsibility to prepare lesson plans, activities, and to create a team environment. The candidates for this position should be a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced in team Sports. Sports Specialist should have impressive leadership ability and enjoys working with youth from ages 6 through 18. This position involves extensive organizing, problem solving, and time management. KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities and Functions): Prepare Youth for Success Work with youth of all ability levels and help develop team relationships Educate youth on athletic performance training and recovery Utilize effective cues and techniques to improve youth performance Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes Promote and stimulate program participation. Provide guidance and role modeling to all members Provide members with instruction, encouragement, and constructive feedback on their progress Community Involvement Attend BGC sporting events Build relationships with schools, athletic organizations, and other coaches Establish a program setting that insures the health and safety of members Educate members on how to understand and follow the standards and positive interaction in the club Keep all gym area neat and clean Assures the proper care and maintenance of all equipment and identifies equipment needs Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies Seek help and assistance with children from other professional staff as needed Program Development and Implementation Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for members. Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members and quality in programs an appearance of the facility at all times. Prepare activity reports. Participate in Youth Development Training This job involves standing for long periods as well as squatting, and lifting, twisting, and running. Lifting in excess of 45lbs will be required at times. RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Two year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent Experience preferred. A minimum of one year work experience in a similar capacity Experience working with youth Experience with leading large group activities. Experience with coaching, such as football, basketball, volleyball, soccer and other group sports. Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth Must be responsible and reliable Must be available in the afternoon/evening hours to perform duties. Hours- Monday Through Friday 2:30pm-6:30pm Additional hours outside of program time are given for administrative, planning, and training purposes. When School is not in session we will be open from 9am-5pm Clubhouse opens on September 23 and run until the beginning of June 2023. Paid training will be provided before program start date.
