Responsibilities for this PositionEngineer - SystemsUS-CT-GrotonJob ID: 2026-18381Type: Full-Time# of Openings: 2Category: EngineeringEB Groton ShipyardOverviewThe D&E Process Engineering organization provides mission-critical support to EB leadership by developing and managing the organization's improvement strategies, executing improvement initiatives, mentoring and supporting employees in executing improvement, and measuring the impact of an organization's improvement activities. These activities are linked to EB business objectives and support our commitment to the US Navy to design, build and deliver submarines that enable their continued supremacy. Candidates will be responsible for leading project teams, workshops, Rapid Improvement (RIE) or Design Build Sustain (DBS) events to improve safety and quality, reduce cost, and improve schedule performance. Responsibilities include:Conducting data analysis to determine production costs, cost saving methods, the effects of product design changes on expendituresAnalyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectivesResolving emergent design issuesLeading and supporting engineering disciplines to run statistical analyses in support of urgent technical issuesAssisting organizations in identifying, planning, and implementing projects and ensure they align with company objectives and schedulesOrganizing projects into manageable activities and milestones for team members, developing clear problem/objective statements, project charters, and other documents is requiredStaying focused on priorities and driving projects to completion, navigating roadblocks or addressing/escalating the impassable onesCollaborating with leadership and employees to apply Lean and Six Sigma statistical methods and insights to solve complex problems and continuously improve processesProviding management with project status updates, soliciting feedback, and resolving barriers to achieving successProviding mentorship to employees when leading changeTraining others in Lean and Six Sigma methodologiesFostering a culture of continuous improvement in the organizationSelected applicants must demonstrate strong project management and prioritization skills working under minimal supervision, in a team environment, and be able to complete Black Belt projects including preparing and issuing final reports. Candidates must be capable of combining assertive initiative with professional discipline to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as change agents to remove barriers that hinder change.ResponsibilitiesProject Manager skills, including scoping, team building, execution, schedule/cost management, testing/piloting, and implementation.Motivated, performance driven individual with strong leadership skillsStrong presentation and oral/written communication skillsExcellent interpersonal skills, using a combination of active listening, verbal and non-verbal methodsWorks well in team environmentAble to combine initiative with professionalism to accomplish difficult tasksStrong facilitation skills, including facilitation of meetings greater than 2 hours in front of 10-30+ peopleAbility to lead Rapid Improvement/Kaizen EventsMust have a working knowledge of the principles of analytical problem solving techniques and data-based decision making with a solid understanding of basic probability and statisticsSolid functional expertise and a reputation as a change leaderKnowledgeable in developing a company's Continuous Improvement strategies and visionQualificationsRequired:* Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering* 5+ years of post-graduate experience in engineeringPreferred:5+ years of EB experience working within Design and EngineeringAt least 5 years of project management experienceGreen Belt and Black Belt training and/or certificationPast experience with Lean, Kaizen, or Toyota Production Systems is highly desiredStrong Knowledge of NX/Teamcenter functionalityCandidates should be familiar with submarine arrangements and ship systemsHands-on experience interacting with and analyzing data from enterprise business systems
