Development Director

Development Director Calvary Women's Services offers housing, health, education, and employment programs that empower homeless women in Washington, DC, to transform their lives.The Development Director leads the execution and management of Calvary's fundraising strategy in close partnership with the Chief Development Officer (CDO). This role oversees day-to-day fundraising operations, donor stewardship, corporate partnerships, and fundraising events, while managing and supporting members of the Development Team.Reporting to the CDO, the Development Director plays a key role in strengthening Calvary's development systems, advancing donor relationships, and ensuring fundraising initiatives are executed effectively, consistently, and in alignment with organizational priorities.Key Responsibilities: Execute annual fundraising plans in collaboration with the CDO to meet revenue goals across individual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, and eventsMonitor progress toward fundraising goals and adjust tactics as neededIdentify opportunities to strengthen fundraising systems, processes, and donor experienceSupport the identification and development of new revenue opportunities in partnership with the CDODonor Stewardship & Major Gifts Manage a portfolio of individual and major gift donors and prospects, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardshipLead donor engagement activities in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer, including major gift strategy and donor meetingsImplement and manage a moves management process, including prospect tracking and personalized stewardship plansOversee annual appeals and online campaigns, providing strategic guidance and execution supportPartner with Communications staff to ensure donor-facing messaging is consistent, compelling, and mission-alignedCorporate Partnerships Identify, cultivate, and secure new corporate sponsors and partners, while stewarding existing relationshipsExpand corporate giving and sponsorship opportunities across events and campaignsLead sponsorship solicitation for fundraising events and initiativesSpecial Events Provide leadership and oversight for fundraising events, including the annual Hope Gala, fundraising walk, and donor engagement eventsOversee event planning timelines, budgets, vendors, and logisticsCollaborate with staff, volunteers, and consultants to ensure successful executionSupport volunteer engagement related to fundraising and eventsTeam Leadership & Supervision Lead, mentor, and supervise Development team members, ensuring alignment with fundraising goals and professional developmentDelegate responsibilities appropriately to support efficient execution and team sustainabilitySupervise consultants supporting events, data, or other development initiativesData Management & Reporting Oversee management of the donor database (CRM), ensuring accurate and timely tracking of gifts, donor activity, and engagementAnalyze fundraising and donor data to inform strategy, appeals, and stewardship effortsPrepare reports, forecasts, and updates for the CDO and leadership teamCollaboration & Representation Partner closely with Communications staff on development-related communications and campaignsLead donor tours, presentations, and community outreach as neededRepresent Calvary Women's Services at events and with external partnersRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 57 years of experience in fundraising or development, preferably in a nonprofit settingDemonstrated success executing fundraising strategies across multiple revenue streamsExperience managing and mentoring staff Strong relationship-building and communication skillsExperience overseeing donor databases and fundraising systemsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, fast-paced environmentStrong organizational skills and attention to detailEducation and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field or a minimum of 5-7 years relevant work experienceWork Environment Requirements: Own transportation is required for trips out of the officeMove, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistanceReach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stoopingClimbing: Ascending or descending multiple flights of stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and armsStand, sit, or walk for an extended periodBenefits include:100% Employer contribution for employee's CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield medical insuranceHealth Reimbursement Account (HRA)100% of employees' life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance403(b) Retirement Plan and match programFlexible Spending Accounts for medical, dependent care, and transportation reimbursable expensesVoluntary benefits include: dental and vision insurance, portable life insurance, supplemental insurance for accidents, hospitalizations, cancer, and critical illnessGenerous vacation (beginning at 15 days), sick leave, and holidaysProfessional development funds for training and educationThis is a full-time hybrid position, with a minimum of 2 days per week spent in Calvary's offices.Applications without a Cover Letter will not be considered.
