Controls Engineer IIIClassifications - Exempt (Salary)Hours – 40-hour work weekReports to – Chief EngineerDate – March 17th , 2026Salary Range - $91k - $119k annuallyJOB DESCRIPTION – Designs electrical, software, and some mechanical systems to meet both the requirements of the project and the shipment schedule. Accountable to the Chief Engineer for fulfilling his/her function.Essential Functions: Machine Design & Development:Design and develop electrical control systems for advanced machine tools, including schematics, layouts, and bills of materials using AutoCAD Electrical.Develop machine safety systems, ladder logic, and HMI software to support complex machine functionality.Perform technical calculations and analyses to support machine performance, reliability, and integration.Configure control parameters and develop test programs to validate machine capabilities.Design supporting mechanical components such as electrical cabinets, brackets, and integration hardware.Apply knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to ensure seamless machine and control integration.Automation, Integration & Commissioning:Integrate and support industrial robotic systems used for machine tending and automated manufacturing processes.Develop and modify robotic programs using the teach pendant and offline programming tools such as Roboguide, including configuration of tool frames, user frames, and I/O interfaces to ensure proper integration with machine controls and PLC systems.Support robotic commissioning including payload configuration, collision detection setup, and recovery procedures.Lead machine debug and system integration activities during machine build and customer runoff.Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software issues to ensure reliable machine performance.Debug interface software and implement control system improvements during commissioning.Operate machines and controls during factory acceptance testing and customer demonstrations.Project Execution, Documentation & SupportLead independent engineering projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver complete machine systems.Ensure proper vaulting, revision control, and management of engineering documentation within the company’s PDM system.Utilize ERP systems for item master management and bill of material creation.Provide technical support to field service teams and customers, including troubleshooting and training.Contribute to department goals and continuous improvement initiatives.Work within project schedules to meet critical delivery milestones.Maintain professional communication with customers, vendors, and internal teams.Deliver high-quality engineering work while complying with all company safety standards and procedures.Competencies:Strong verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawingsStrong troubleshooting and analytical abilityProficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and WindowsControls and automation aptitudeSupervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.Work Environment: Normal office environment, with exposure to shop conditions.Physical Demands: The employee may stand for extended periods, climb around machinery, and lift up to 50 pounds.Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Travel: Travel may be required to support field service issues and customer installations.
