Foster Corporation Job Description Job Title: Production Supervisor Reports To: Production Manager Location: Putnam, CT, 38 Ridge Road Primary Function: To supervise and coordinate the activities of direct reports in the manufacture of specialty plastic compounds, operating consistently in a team environment, maintaining efficiency, cleanliness, safety, and high-quality standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Inspect all production runs to verify instructions are being followed, direct set-up and adjustments to manufacturing equipment as necessary, and verify conformance to specifications are met. Assign and supervise direct report activities. Interprets specifications and job orders to direct reports as required. Participates in production scheduling and estimating production requirements to complete orders. Adjusts direct reports work schedules and participation to meet production schedules. Recommends and implements improvements to production methods, equipment performance, and product quality. Suggest and implement changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase production efficiency. Interprets company policies and procedures to direct reports. Enforces safety policies. Analyzes and resolves work-related problems and assists direct reports in solving work-related problems. Communicates with other supervisors and managers to coordinate interdepartmental activities. Performs activities of direct reports supervised as appropriate to meet goals and objectives. Address complaints and resolve problems that originate from or are related to direct reports. Takes immediate action and performs relevant training to prevent and correct unsafe operating conditions and/or injury. Takes immediate action and performs relevant training to prevent and correct the production of a high amount of scrap or nonconforming product. Ensures a clean working environment is maintained supervising the cleanliness of workstations, machine surfaces, batching room, screw building room, and general manufacturing areas. Conducts annual performance reviews of direct reports supervised. Reports required equipment repairs and failures to appropriate personnel. Ensure new employees are trained and signed off on all Foster Production Work Instructions. Operates as a team player to assist all company employees in meeting or exceeding customer expectations. and minimize interpersonal conflicts. Reviews and signs direct reports time entries. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Complies with all safety regulations and applies good judgment in safely performing all tasks. Complies with all related company ISO requirements. Monitor production supplies reports supply needs to 1st shift lead operator. Communicates with the manufacturing manager on all appropriate concerns related to working conditions, safety, and interpersonal conflicts. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of the shift production staff. Qualifications: The ability to perform all duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. Ability to read and comprehend directions, instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and MSDS sheets. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Ability to operate a computer for data entry and documentation processing. Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or 2 years related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education/training/experience. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Language/Communication Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents including safety rules, operational instructions, procedure manuals, and MSDS sheets. Ability to write routine reports. Computer Skills: Must be proficient using system programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Other Required Ability: Must have good reasoning ability as described below. Ability to apply common sense to carry instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
