functions of the job unless those accommodations would present an undue hardship.Incumbent serves as Settlement and Tax Deputy for the Owen County Auditor's Office, responsible for processing property tax amounts, reconciling and distributing paid taxes, assisting with tax sale, managing property tax data, and assisting Auditor and the public.Incumbent serves as an Assistant Payroll and Benefits Deputy for the Owen County Auditor's Office, responsible for assisting the main payroll deputy with directing and processing payroll for all County employees, preparing reports, maintaining files, assisting in Human Resource duties, assists in tracking and disbursing payment to insurance companies, and assisting the Auditor and the public.Incumbent serves as Assistant Property Transfer Deputy for the Owen County Auditor's Office, responsible for coordinating property transfers and managing records, performing a variety of clerical duties, and assisting the public.DUTIES:Verifies assessed values of all property types and produces tax amounts, including completing calculations, preparing reports, balancing values with Assessor's Office, and uploading reports into online database for Indiana Department of Local Government Finance.Processes, reconciles, and distributes tax collections, including preparing reports and receipts, issuing checks, and preparing corrections of assessments/claims for refunds.Calculates refunds due to tax payers and Tax Sale redemption amounts and maintains accurate database records.Creates/maintains abstract of taxes.Assists with Tax Sale, including preparing and maintaining records, redemption, participating in sale, and preparing correction of funds/refunds.Updates and maintains accuracy of BMV excise tax database, including importing reports and verifying correct townships receive credit for excise taxes paid.Processes excise and lottery funds, providing figures for wheel tax distribution, preparing rep01 to reconcile with Treasurer, and issuing checks to taxing units.Performs related duties as assigned.JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:High school diploma or GED.Thorough knowledge of legal regulations and requirements concerning collection, maintenance, and distribution of County tax funds, and ability to apply regulations and requirements to specific situations.Practical knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting/budgeting practices and principles and ability to complete financial paperwork and maintain accurate financial accounts.Working knowledge of County government operations and County ordinances.Working knowledge of basic filing systems and ability to create and maintain Department files and records.Working knowledge of hardware/software applications used by the Department, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, webmail, property tax database programs, electronic filing, and online research.Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and ability to prepare written detailed reports as required.Ability to properly operate department equipment, including computer, calculator, copier, telephone, and fax machine.Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile individuals.Ability to count, compute, and perform arithmetic operations, compare/compile/classify/observe/ analyze data, and take action based on data analysis.Ability to plan and present public speaking presentations and testify in legal proceedings/court.Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, State Auditor, State Board of Accounts, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Department of Local Government Finance, County Attorney, County schools, BMV, tax sale processors, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.Ability with priorities determined primarily by seasonal deadlines and service needs of the public. Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures while receiving indirect or occasional supervision. On rare occasions, decisions are made in the absence of specific policies and procedures, and/or guidance from supervisor. Work errors are primarily detected or prevented through legally defined procedures and notification from other departments/agencies/ public. Work errors may result in work delays in loss of money to other agencies/public.PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:Incumbent maintains contact with co-workers, other County departments, State Auditor, State Board of Accounts, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Department of Local Government Finance, County Attorney, County schools, BMV, tax sale processors, and the public for the purpose of giving and receiving factual information. Incumbent reports directly to the Auditor.PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment, involving sitting/walking at will, sitting for long periods, close/far vision, color/depth perception, keyboarding, handling/grasping/ fingering objects, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing under 25 pounds, crouching/kneeling/bending/reaching, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent may have to perform duties in a noisy environment and may be exposed to irate/hostile individuals.Incumbent occasionally works extended hours, evenings, and weekends and travels out of town for conferences and meetings, sometimes overnight.
