Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Maintains proficiency in driving skillsIs responsible for completing all reports relating to transportationEnsures safety and care of students boarding, riding, and departing school busMaintains a high standard of student conduct at all timesDischarges students only at the authorized school or bus stop locationsTransports only authorized studentsReports infractions of school bus safety rules to the principal or designeeObeys all traffic laws and school bus regulations while operating the school busPerforms daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections; complies with standards of bus cleanlinessOperates the school bus on the assigned route(s) and schedule as provided by the Transportation DepartmentAttends bus safety meetingsInforms TIMS Coordinator of any students added or deleted from route which may necessitate a change in route or bus stopAccepts responsibility for securing the school bus before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or routeAccepts responsibility for reporting observable mechanical defects or failures on the school busMaintains acceptable relations with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnelPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisorPHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTSThe major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the School Bus Driver job classification within Bertie County Schools.Work in this classification is considered medium physical work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Must be able to:Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouchWork in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditionsUse visual acuity required for depth perception and color perceptionVisually inspect small defects and/or small partsUse a variety of measuring devicesAssemble or fabricate parts at or within arm's lengthOperate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job specific equipment and tools determine the accuracy and thoroughness of workObserve general surroundings and activitiesHear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levelsUse communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideasSafely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may be require specialized personal protective equipmentUnderstand and follow oral and written instructions
