We make lithography, metrology and motion systems that pattern, inspect and characterize our chips in order to push our process to lower nodes.About The RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Mechatronics Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and building semiconductor fabrication equipment, subsystems, and tools. This role requires a strong mix of mechanical, electrical, and system integration expertise and a proven track record of rapidly prototyping complex systems and advancing them to the next stage of production.The ideal candidate moves through design cycles fast and can own the end to end process. Our philosophy is to get things built/tested in days or weeks, not months. Because of this, a portfolio is generally required to apply: show us the things you’ve actually built!ResponsibilitiesDesign and iterate on machines, subsystems, test fixtures, inspection tools, and sensorsLead system integration efforts, testing, and cross-team coordinationDevelop electrical designs, including PCB design, wiring, power electronics, and sensor integrationExecute mechanical design of frames, components, and assemblies, with a focus on practical application rather than deep theoretical analysisRapidly prototype, build, and test new designsSource and select components while balancing cost, reliability, and performanceWrite light software and firmware to support system operationRequired Experience3 years of experience designing and building electromechanical systems for real-world applications Electromechanical system design and analysisElectrical instrumentation experience (scopes, meters, sensors)Mechanical design and CAD proficiencyHands-on prototyping, fabrication, and assemblyComponent sourcing and selectionLight coding and scriptingNice-to-haveCircuit design and PCB layout (analog and digital)Experience with metrology and sensor technologiesMotion system selection and controlOptical components and system integrationWorking at fab2We’re an early-stage hardware startup with solid funding, world-class advisors, and offices in Austin, TX and San Francisco, CA.Compensation: fab2 is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The annual salary range for this role is $120,000 – $180,000. Compensation is determined based on your qualifications and experience.
