OverviewWe are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain real-time embedded systems supporting advanced hardware and defense applications. This role spans low-level firmware through application-layer development, with a strong focus on C/C++, RTOS environments, and hardware/software integration.You will contribute to complex systems such as sonar, underwater platforms, and defense technologies while collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, and maintain embedded software in real-time environmentsDevelop low-level and application-layer code using C/C++ and object-oriented principlesIntegrate software with embedded hardware, peripherals, and communication interfacesOptimize code for performance, reliability, and efficiency in resource-constrained systemsImplement networking functionality, including TCP/IP-based communicationDevelop within RTOS environments (e.g., FreeRTOS) for task scheduling and concurrencyDebug embedded systems using tools such as debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzersPerform system-level testing and validation of embedded software performanceCollaborate with systems, hardware, and test teams to define requirements and resolve issuesParticipate in code reviews to maintain quality and consistency across the codebaseDevelop and maintain technical documentation (design specs, interfaces, user guides)Support program milestones and compliance requirements for defense systemsContribute to continuous improvement of tools, processes, and coding standardsRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field5+ years of experience in embedded software developmentStrong proficiency in C/C++ and object-oriented programmingExperience developing in embedded environments (bare-metal and/or RTOS-based systems)Familiarity with RTOS platforms (e.g., FreeRTOS or similar)Experience with networking protocols, especially TCP/IPHands-on debugging experience with embedded tools and lab equipmentSolid understanding of hardware/software integration, device drivers, and SoC architecturesExperience working in Linux-based development environmentsAbility to obtain and maintain a security clearancePreferred QualificationsExperience with ARM-based embedded platformsBackground in defense systems (e.g., sonar, weapons systems, underwater technology)Experience supporting Navy or maritime applicationsExperience developing or maintaining embedded Linux systemsFamiliarity with device driver developmentStrong cross-functional collaboration experienceExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills in complex systems debuggingStrong technical documentation skillsWork EnvironmentThis role is primarily onsite with some hybrid flexibility, depending on program needs. You will work in a hands-on lab and integration environment, interacting with hardware platforms and test equipment daily.The position supports government and defense programs and may involve collaboration with external facilities such as naval or underwater research centers.
