The Lead Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of digger derricks and related equipment in support of aerial and underground telecom construction projects. This role acts as a field leader, coordinating daily crew activities, supporting pole line construction, and ensuring all work is performed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with telecom standards and customer requirements.What You Will DoOperate digger derricks, bucket trucks, and other telecom construction equipment safely and efficientlyLead and support crew members on aerial fiber builds, including pole setting, transfers, and strand workRead and work from prints, staking sheets, and job specsSet, remove, and replace poles according to project requirementsHandle daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance to keep everything job-readyUnderstand and follow load charts, rigging practices, and safe lifting proceduresKeep the job site clean, organized, and safeCommunicate with your crew and supervisors to keep work on trackHelp train and guide less experienced team membersWhat You Will NeedValid CDL Class A required3–5+ years of experience operating heavy equipment, including digger derricksTelecom experience (aerial fiber/copper builds) strongly preferredComfortable leading a crew and keeping jobs movingAbility to read prints and understand job requirementsSolid understanding of equipment operation and basic maintenanceExperience with rigging and safe load handlingStrong focus on safety and awareness on active job sitesNCCER or similar certifications are a plusWork EnvironmentRepeated and frequent ability to lift, from floor to above head 40 lbs continuouslyAbility to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity.
