Art form and teaching experience encouraged.Position PurposeFine Arts Specialists have the responsibility to teach to Utah state core standards in a given art form. Their focus should be to build student capacity to learn deeply in the arts. Under the direction of the school principal, the specialist will develop a positive learning environment where students develop learning skills such as creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, and meaning making through arts-rich instruction. The specialist may also collaborate when possible with teachers in the school to coordinate for integrated learning.Essential FunctionsA Fine Arts Educator works in 1-2 schools to accomplish the following:Build confidence in students to create and connect within a given art formDevelop and teach arts-rich lessons that engage in the four strands of the Utah state core: Create, Present, Connect and Respond.Actively participate as a member of collaborative learning team (PLC) to develop self and othersKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesKnowledge of art form pedagogy and concepts, curriculum mapping and scaffoldingBasic understanding of elementary grade-level curriculumProficiency with computers and educational technologyAbility to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with othersSkilled in leading rehearsals and/or art creation processesDriven to engage in self-reflection and professional improvement, collaborate with students and teachers for best results, and lead efforts for improved arts experiences for all
