Indotronix is seeking a Service Mesh Engineer Remote and tech hubs are both acceptedPosition Title: Service Mesh EngineerPosition Location: Remote and tech HUBs both accepted; (Hybrid 2-3x per week)Duration: Contract to hirePosition ProfileKey responsibilities in order of which they will be doing day 1 and frequently followed by those they will be doing as the project/work progresses:A Service Mesh Engineer’s Day-to-day Responsibilities Would Include Manage and Maintain Service Mesh: Oversee the deployment, configuration, and management of service mesh solutions (e.g., Istio, Linkerd, Consul) across microservices architecture. Traffic Management and Routing: Implement traffic routing policies, load balancing, and service discovery to ensure seamless communication between microservices. Monitor and Optimize Performance: Continuously monitor service mesh health, latency, and throughput, and optimize performance across services using tools like Prometheus and Grafana. Security and Policy Enforcement: Implement and manage security policies, including mutual TLS (mTLS), service-to-service authentication, and role-based access control (RBAC). Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues: Diagnose and troubleshoot communication issues between services, resolving network or configuration problems quickly. Collaborate with Development and DevOps Teams: Work closely with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure smooth integration of the service mesh into CI/CD pipelines. Update and Automate: Regularly update service mesh components and automate tasks such as service onboarding, scaling, and configuration using infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Helm. Logging and Observability: Ensure proper observability through distributed tracing (e.g., Jaeger), logging, and metric collection, helping to troubleshoot and enhance system visibility.These responsibilities focus on ensuring the seamless, secure, and reliable communication between microservices within a cloud-native architecture.Must have technical skills/experience (ask for alternative/tool/version) of the position in priority order:QualificationsLooking for someone with a blend of skills in software engineering, DevOps, and networking. Key qualifications for a service mesh engineer or architect include: Strong Networking Knowledge: Understanding of network protocols (HTTP, TCP, gRPC), and concepts like load balancing, DNS, and service discovery. Experience with Cloud-Native Environments: Hands-on experience with platforms like Kubernetes and container orchestration tools. Service Mesh Expertise: Knowledge of popular service mesh solutions like Istio, Linkerd, Consul, or Kuma. They should understand how to configure, monitor, and manage traffic between services. Security: Familiarity with security principles like mTLS (mutual TLS), service-to-service authentication, and authorization. Automation and Scripting: Competence with scripting (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation, and experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or Helm. Monitoring and Observability: Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger) to monitor service mesh performance and troubleshoot issues.
