Plant Chemist
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for product, raw material, and process performance for all production activities at the Baxley, Ga. site. Must be able to work with Quality, Production, Engineering, Purchasing and Logistics, EHS, and R&D to initiate product implementation and improve existing cycle times and quality.
Education/Experience:
Training Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline with 5 years related experience, or
equivalent is required. Previous work experience with Resins and/or relevant polymer chemistry is
required. Must be familiar with SAP, Statistical Process Analysis, and Microsoft Office programs. Have
strong organizational and communication skills. The candidate should have the ability to work with and
motivate employees towards the accomplishment of corporate goals and objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
EHS:
Ensures that laboratory equipment and procedures are safe for use.
Responds to all employee safety concerns in a timely manner.
Provides personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for lab operations, and enforces the use of required PPE in the lab and throughout the facility.
Ensures maintenance of proper lab housekeeping.
Ensures that chemical use containers are properly labeled per the OSHA hazard communication standard.
Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations within the lab work environment.
Ensure that inside/outside lab storage of solvents meets required environmental standards.
Support Environmental / Safety programs and initiatives as necessary.
Works with global EHS and R&D to make sure all formulations comply with listed CAS#'s.
Trains employees on proper handling and PPE for all current and future raw materials.
Provides assistance in investigating spills and any other possible hazards.
Product Quality and R&D:
Leads the organization pro-actively toward continuing product quality improvement.
Helps to maintain all current QC/QA SOPs.
Ensures that lab equipment and facilities are properly maintained.
Actively manages nonconforming products by assigning disposition.
Ensures efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability of all lab testing and batch adjustments.
Reviews testing data, reclassified products, and aid in providing final quality approval of shipments to customers.
Ensure that the QC paperwork and SAP information is completed accurately and on time.
Aids in investigating all customer quality complaints.
Assist with the development of new or modified QC testing procedures, including documentation and training aspects.
Works with R&D and Manufacturing to establish and enhance formulas and process instructions for formulations.
Works with R&D and Manufacturing to establish successful formulas and process instructions for new products and alternate raw materials usage.
Keeps current SAP recipes, routings, production versions, and BOMs up-to-date
Installs all new recipes, routings, production versions, and BOMs into SAP
Purchasing and Logistics:
Works with purchasing to determine proper schedule for incoming raw materials to meet customer demand.
Sets up formulations and dates for trialing new raw materials and vendors
Keeps an up-to-date list of approved vendors
Production and Engineering:
Must be familiar with Statistical Analysis programs to help find areas of improvement for cycle time reduction and quality.
Able to team with Engineering and Production personnel to find solutions to process issues.

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
Language Skills:
Strong English oral and written communication skills are required.
Skill in writing grammatically correct routine business correspondence
Mathematical Skills:
The ability to successfully complete moderately complex arithmetic calculations.
Knowledge of the metric system units (length, area, volume, capacity, mass and weight) and U.S. equivalents.
Reasoning Ability:
Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures.
Skill in organizing material, information in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort. Ability to analyze information in order to identify potential problems or discrepancies.

Physical Demands:
Standing, sitting, bending, stooping. Lifting up to a maximum of 50 pounds
Work Environment:
Business office environment as well as Outdoor Warehousing
May be requested to work outside of normal working hours.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
