This role focuses on the assembly, alignment, testing, and maintenance of optical components and systems used in imaging payloads and related hardware. Day-to-day responsibilities include handling and cleaning precision optics, performing optical alignment with specialized tools, and conducting inspections and measurements to validate performance against specifications. The Optical Technician collaborates closely with engineers and other technicians to troubleshoot issues, document procedures, and support continuous improvement of optical manufacturing and test processes. This team member also helps maintain lab equipment, follows safety and quality standards, and contributes to efficient, repeatable workflows for production and R&D.Qualifications Optical laboratory skills, including handling, cleaning, and mounting lenses, mirrors, filters, and other precision optical components.Experience with optical alignment and testing using tools such as interferometers, collimators, test targets, and alignment jigs.Mechanical and technical skills for working with fixtures, basic hand tools, and optical/mechanical assemblies in a production or lab environment.Ability to read and follow technical drawings, work instructions, and specifications, with strong attention to detail and quality.Basic data collection and analysis skills, including recording measurements, interpreting test results, and documenting findings clearly.Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with engineers, other technicians, and cross-functional teams.Comfort with standard computer tools (e.g., office software, data entry systems) and willingness to learn specialized test or inventory applications.Prior experience in optics, photonics, aerospace, precision manufacturing, or a related technical field is beneficial.Relevant education such as a technical certificate, associate degree, or equivalent practical experience in optics, electronics, or mechanical technology.Commitment to safety, cleanliness, and consistent process execution in a laboratory or production setting.
