Fellowship Hall, a 100-bed private, not-for-profit specialty hospital offering abstinence-based alcohol and drug treatment based on the 12-Step Model of Recovery, located on a serene 120-acre country setting in Greensboro, NC, is currently seeking a full-time Counselor - RTC/PHP - to be a part of our residential and partial hospitalization programming.Position Summary: Responsible for providing care to the guests by providing individual and group counseling; coordinates opportunities for family counseling with the family program; provides life skills education, crises contingency planning, and disease management education; engages guests in developing strategies for relapse prevention (to include community and social support); develops psychosocial history, assessments, treatment plans, and referral; documents treatment progress, orientation, discharge, and related records; presents didactic materials; participates in staff training; participates in Performance Improvement activities; demonstrates knowledge/skills to provide age appropriate care; approves all passes for the structured sober living house guests and manages behavior issues; facilitates Early Recovery Group if needed; maintains regular weekend rotation, participates in staff meetings; monitors partial hospitalization program on an ongoing basis, providing input to Lead Outpatient Counselor and Clinical Director, float counselor as needed; and performs other duties as assigned. This individual must be able to work independently and under minimal supervision. The position schedule will be full-time (40 hours a week) Monday through Friday and a weekend rotation.Responsible to: Therapy Leadership and Clinical Director Position Qualifications:Minimum Education: • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field.Minimum Experience: • 3 years’ experience in chemical dependency treatment. Minimum Licensure/Certification: • Required full or provisional licensure as LCAS and LCSW or LCMHC. • CPR and First Aid Certification.• NCI+ Certification.Skills: • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles and practice of addiction treatment. Proficient in conducting individual & group therapy. • Demonstrates proficiency in communication, written, and interpersonal skills. Proficient in the practice of universal precautions. • Demonstrates proficiency in Age Specific Care appropriate to the age of the guest served. Physical Demands/Strength: • Be able to lift objects at least 25 lbs.Environmental Conditions: • Potential exposure to airborne/blood-borne pathogens or other potentially infectious material.Visual Demand: • Be able to see closely and far away as in reading and driving.Aural (Hearing) Demand: • Be able to hear normal sounds with background noise.Protective Devices Required: • N/AWorking Environment: • Office space, classrooms Job Specific Behaviors OrientationOrientation is the process in which the following are communicated to the guest: the general nature and goals of the program, program operations, and the rules governing guest conduct that can lead to disciplinary action or discharge from the program. • Provides an overview to the guest by describing program goals, operations, goals for guest care, and guest rights and responsibilities. • Provide an overview to the guest by describing program rules and guest responsibilities and rights.• Provide an overview to the guest of program operations. • Documents elements of guest orientation. Assessment Assessment is an ongoing process through which the counselor collaborates with the guest and others to gather and interpret information necessary for planning treatment and evaluating guest progress.• Gathers history from guest including but not limited to alcohol/drug dependence using appropriate interview technique. • Obtains and utilizes corroborative information from guest’s significant others to enhance treatment.• Explain to the guests the rationale for the use of assessment techniques in order to facilitate understanding.• Develops an evaluative summary for direct IPHP admissions of the guest’s substance use which includes any coexisting conditions, guest’s strengths and weaknesses, goals, and needs. • Explains results of the assessment to the guest and uses assessment information to individualize the guest’s treatment goals. Treatment Planning Treatment planning is a collaborative effort in which the counselor and the guest develop a written document that identifies important treatment goals; describes measurable, time-sensitive objectives toward achieving those goals along with expected outcomes; and reflects a verbal agreement between the counselor and the guest.• Identifies and ranks problems based on individual guest needs in the written treatment plan. • Formulates mutually agreed-on and measurable treatment goals and objectives. • Identifies the treatment methods, interventions, and other treatment resources to aid the guest in attaining treatment goals. • Uses assessment information to individualize the guest’s treatment goals. • Interprets assessment information considering the guest’s age, developmental level, treatment readiness, gender, and racial and ethnic culture. • Writes goal and objective statements in terms understandable to the guest and significant others.• Documents progress of guest in relation to treatment plan goals and objectives. • Documents changes in the treatment plan, guest status, outcome to interventions, and discharge status. Counseling A collaborative process that facilitates the guest’s progress toward mutually determined treatment goals and objectives. Counseling includes methods that are sensitive to individual guest’s characteristics and to the influence of significant others, as well as the guest’s cultural and social context. Competence in counseling is built on an understanding of, and ability to appropriately use the contributions of various addiction counseling models as they apply to modalities of care for individuals, groups, families, and significant others.• Counseling is individualized in respect to cultural, gender, and lifestyle differences. • Solutions and decisions from the guest are encouraged. • Responds to a crisis by taking an immediate course of action. • Establishes a helpful relationship with the guest characterized by warmth, respect, genuineness, and empathy. • Facilitates the guest’s engagement in the recovery process. • Reframes and redirects negative behavior. • Presents inconsistencies between the guest’s behavior and goals. • Assists the guest in expressing feelings and normalizing emotions. • Assesses and engages the guest’s strengths in the treatment process. Group Therapy• Motivates guests toward involvement in group. • Recognizes and accommodates appropriate individual needs within the group. • Uses the group process to prepare guests for transition. • Effectively addresses different types of resistant behaviors in groups. • Recognizes when and how to use appropriate power in a group. • Uses the group process to negotiate group goals, outcomes, and ground rules within the context of individual needs and objectives of group members. ReferralThe process of facilitating the guest’s use of available support systems and community resources to meet needs identified in the assessment or treatment planning. • Identifies needs and/or problems that our facility cannot meet. • Explain the reasons for the referral to the guest. • Adheres to federal and state confidentiality requirements by obtaining appropriate releases. • Assist the guest in accessing identified referrals and resources and motivate him/her to take responsibility for follow up. EducationThe process of providing guests, families, and significant others with information regarding addiction and family disease as well as other available treatment and recovery resources.• Present to the guests and families important information regarding drug/alcohol dependence including available resources. • Educating guests and families about the effect of addiction on the family and significant others. • Provides education in a way that reflects an understanding of culture, ethnicity, age, and gender.
