K-5 Instructional Coach

K-5 Instructional Coach General Description The primary function of the Instructional Coach is to provide strong instructional leadership and assistance to instructional staff, support in the development and implementation of curriculum and instructional programs, and promote effective classroom teaching practices to increase student achievement and consistency of program implementation and teaching practices across the district. Qualifications: Valid CT State Teaching Certificate at the Elementary levelMaster's DegreeSuccessful experience as a classroom teacherSuccessful coaching experience preferred Reports to: Building Principal Performance Expectations and Responsibilities:Directly report to the building principalSupport the district goals with direction and support of the Curriculum Coordinator and building goals with the direction and support of the building principalParticipate in consistent PD and instructional coaches' staff meetings coordinated by the Curriculum CoordinatorContributes as a member of the school leadership teamSupport in the development of an appropriate PLC and data team schedule that supports district and building goalsSupport in the development of a staff meeting framework and schedule that supports district and building goals and includes professional learning opportunitiesProvides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curricular resources aligned to state and national standards including essential curriculum, assessment, technology integration, and resources to support all learnersSupports in the development of the district and school improvement planSupport teachers will creating their evaluation goals in support of the district and school improvement plansProvides instructional support for teachers including model lessons, co-planning, observation and feedback, and PLC work in connection with the school improvement planProvides beginning of the year support for new teachers to acclimate to their new roleOrganizes and provides coaching cycles to teachers requesting supportPlans and provides PD during PD times, staff meetings, PLCs, and one on one with teachersOrganizes and conducts classroom walkthroughs with administration and teachers to calibration understanding of high quality instructionAssists with district and school data analysis to track student achievementSupports with the planning and administration of district assessmentsParticipates in DLA Necessary Skills: Knowledge of NPS instructional componentsKnowledge of research and evidence around high quality instructionKnowledge of all curricular programs and assessmentsKnowledge and understanding of SRBI, specifically tier IAbility to communicate well with othersAbility to have effective, difficult conversations with staffAbility to follow policy and proceduresAbility to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; and, work well in group problem-solving situations.Ability to demonstrate the willingness to make decisions and include the appropriate people in decision-makingAbility to adapt to change in the work environment; manage competing demands; change approach or method to best fit situation; and able to deal with frequent changeProficient with the use of technology for data collection; personal management; curriculum work Physical Abilities and Working Conditions: The Physical Abilities and Other Conditions of Employment listed in this section are representative of, but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of Physical Abilities and Other Conditions of Employment that may be required of positions in this class.
