Special Education Teacher (Certificated)The Napa Foundation for Options in Education is seeking a dynamic and passionate Special Education Teacher (Certificated) for our new charter school, Mayacamas Countywide Middle School, which opened Fall 2024. The teacher reports to the Head of School and is responsible for the implementation of our Special Education curriculum and manages all aspects of our Special Education Program. The teacher fosters a collaborative and stimulating classroom environment for a diverse group of students, as well as fosters a strong collaboration between parents, faculty members, board members and community partners.Because MCMS will be in its third year, we are not just looking for teachers, but for founding educators. We need people who want to work, and can thrive, in a fast-paced, evolving setting, and who demonstrate flexibility, creativity and persistence. MCMS needs educators who want to play a significant role in evolving our model and curriculum, facilitating meetings, designing school systems, and helping to create a school culture that is focused on social-emotional health, high achievement and community. We are searching for educators committed to the love of teaching and building a long-term legacy for Napa families.PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe primary roles and responsibilities of the Special Ed Teacher shall include/but are not limited to:Assess students' skills and determine their educational needsAdapt general lessons to meet students' needsPlan activities that are specific to each student's abilitiesTeach and mentor students in small groups, and one-on-oneImplement IEPs, assess students' performance, and track their progressUpdate IEPs and ILPs to reflect students' progress and goals in accordance with school policies and applicable lawsDiscuss students' progress with parents, Parent Liaison (when hired), Counselor (when hired), EL Coordinator (when hired), teachers and other personnel as appropriateServe as primary contact for Special Education familiesSupervise and mentor instructional aides who work with students with disabilities (SWD)Collaborate with outside services providers and consultants, as well as partner community service agencies as neededAttend Student Support and Progress Team (SSPT) meetings as needed and ensure appropriate follow-upAssist Head of School in ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and policies related to MCMS' SWDPrepare and help students transition from grade to grade and to life outside schoolAdditional duties as may be assigned by the Head of SchoolQUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in special education; Master's is a plusCompletion of a student-teaching programProven experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant roleStrong knowledge of current special education topics and methodologiesExperience working with children with a wide range of disabilitiesA patient, resourceful, and resilient personalityExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAPPLICATION PROCESSWe are strongly committed to hiring a diverse and multicultural staff.
