This role supports the Nisswa Community Children's Library during community access hours outside of the school day, helping create a welcoming, organized, and engaging environment for students, families, and community members.This position is strictly outside of school hours and is not part of the school secretary bargaining unit or any school-day clerical role. The Library Assistant operates independently from the school office and supports library services only during designated community hours.This is a relationship-driven role for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people, values community connection, and takes pride in creating a space where curiosity, literacy, and belonging thrive.What You'll DoCreate an Exceptional Patron ExperienceServe as a welcoming and helpful presence for all visitorsAssist patrons in locating materials and navigating library resourcesAnswer questions and support basic research needs, including digital toolsManage library cards including issuing new cards and maintaining accountsCheck materials in and out using the library circulation systemMaintain a Beautiful, Organized Library SpaceOpen, secure, and close the library during assigned shiftsAccurately sort, shelve, and organize materialsAssist with processing and cataloging new itemsCommunicate and collaborate with library staff and building leadership to ensure smooth coverageSupport Programs and Community EngagementAssist in preparing for and supporting library programs and eventsHelp create inviting, ready-to-use spaces for activitiesParticipate in outreach efforts that promote library services within the Nisswa communityProvide Operational and Administrative SupportComplete clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and answering phonesAssist with basic reporting and data collectionMonitor inventory and help maintain supplies and materialsQualificationsRequiredMust be at least 14 years of ageA genuine interest in reading, learning, and helping othersPreferred: Experience in customer service, education, or library settingsSkills and StrengthsStrong interpersonal and communication skillsHigh attention to detail and organizationComfort with basic technology and digital systemsAbility to work both independently and as part of a teamAbility to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periodsSchedule & Work EnvironmentScheduleJune through August: 2 to 3 days per week from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.September and May: 2 evenings per week from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (optional)Additional hours may include evenings or weekends based on programming needs. Hours and days may vary.Important DistinctionAll hours for this role occur outside of the regular school day and are aligned exclusively to community library hours.
