Special Education Teacher | Java, South Dakota

This rewarding contract position runs from August 18th, 2026, through May 20th, 2027, with a schedule of Monday through Thursday, 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM. Located near Java, SD, you'll play a vital role in fostering growth and learning among students with a blend of cognitive impairments, autism, learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, and other health needs.
Desired Qualifications:
Valid teaching certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain)
Experience teaching in K-12 settings
Strong background supporting learners with diverse and complex needs
Proven ability to develop and implement IEPs tailored to individual student goals
Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Adaptability and creativity in delivering instruction and classroom management
Understanding and application of current best practices for special education
Key Responsibilities:
Design and deliver individualized instruction for students with varying disabilities
Develop, implement, monitor, and update IEPs for each student
Adapt teaching strategies and materials to accommodate different learning styles and needs
Work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and related service providers
Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
Communicate progress regularly to parents and guardians
Maintain detailed and compliant student records
