Science Team Lead - Cellular Reprogramming

BiospacePortland, MIMay 20th, 2026
About Use184 is a biotechnology research company that supports frontier science and technology in Artificial Reproduction Technologies (ART) and neurotech. Our operating model takes the best from deep-tech VC funds and Focused Research Organizations (FROs). Since our foundation, we’ve backed stellar Paterna Bioscience, supported a neurotech initiative at London Imperial College Neurotech Society, and developed collaborations with numerous scientific organisations worldwide. We are setting up a biotechnology lab focused on developing advanced approaches to cellular fate conversion. Our research integrates cell, developmental, and molecular biology, and high-throughput functional genomics screening to address fundamental questions in reproductive biology. Backed by a private investor, we are building a multidisciplinary team to translate frontier science into clinical and technological applications.Role OverviewWe are seeking a Science Team Lead to drive our innovative research program developing novel approaches to cellular fate conversion through transcription factor-mediated reprogramming. This is a leadership position reporting directly to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). The successful candidate will guide scientific planning, supervise project execution, contribute to team building, and shape the long-term R&D roadmap. This is a hands-on role: in addition to team leadership and project management, the candidate will be directly involved in designing and conducting experiments at the bench (wet lab), especially in early stages of the program. What You Will DoLead a focused research team of 4-6 scientists and report directly to the CSODesign and personally conduct hands-on research in cellular reprogramming, high-throughput screening, and cell cycle manipulationDevelop and optimize reporter cell line platforms with integrated fluorescent markers for cellular state transitionsEstablish large-scale screening protocols using CRISPRa and transposon-based transcription factor librariesDesign and execute pooled genetic screens to identify factor combinations driving targeted cellular conversionsSupervise validation studies for cellular reprogramming candidates using cytological and molecular approachesImplement high-content imaging systems for phenotype detection and validationWork with executive leadership to define research approaches and priorities aligned with company objectivesDrive scientific output, IP development, and milestone achievement within established timelinesWhat We Look ForPhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related fieldMinimum 5 years postdoctoral or industry experience in directed cell fate conversion high-throughput genetic screeningDemonstrated expertise in reporter cell line development and validationTechnical proficiency in pooled genetic screening methodologies (CRISPRa, library construction, barcode analysis)Experience with flow cytometry, FACS, and high-content imaging systemsStrong background in cell cycle regulation, chromosome imaging, and cytological analysisProven ability to design and execute complex multi-parameter screening experimentsExperience leading research teams while maintaining significant hands-on involvementEssential Skills – Epigenetic Editing & AnalysisTargeted DNA methylation editing (CRISPR-based fusion protein systems) gRNA design and CRISPR construct optimizationUnderstanding of genomic imprinting mechanismsLong-read methylation analysis (e.g., Oxford Nanopore, PacBio)Haplotype phasing and whole-genome methylation profilingRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, chromatin dynamics and accessibility analysisWhat We OfferOn-site work on the US Pacific West CoastCompetitive compensation and benefits package (discussed during an interview process)A high-impact leadership role in a mission-driven biotech environmentHealth insurance provided; relocation support negotiableOpportunity to shape early-stage scientific vision and company growthCollaborative and intellectually stimulating workplaceSupportive (yet very driven) work environment where your voice and ideas truly matter and quickly translate into decisions and actions.
