Energy Engineer – Job DescriptionUSL Technology Consulting Inc. – New York, NYPosition OverviewUSL Technology Consulting Inc. (USLT) is seeking a highly skilled Energy Engineer with extensive experience in NYC Local Law 87, including ASHRAE Level II audits, ECM analysis and calculations, interactive effects modeling, RSMeans cost estimating, retro‐commissioning (RCx), and RCM/OM&M measures. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in DesignBuilder/EnergyPlus, One Click LCA, and NYC energy and sustainability frameworks (LEED v4/v4.1, LL87, LL97, NYCECC, NYStretch). Key ResponsibilitiesEnergy Modeling & AnalysisDevelop and document whole‐building energy models using DesignBuilder (EnergyPlus).Perform ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G baseline vs. proposed modeling.Conduct parametric runs, sensitivity analyses, and system‐level performance evaluations.NYC Local Law 87 – Deep Technical WorkLead ASHRAE Level II energy audits, including field verification, system assessments, and data collection.Perform ECM analysis, including savings calculations, interactive effects, and system‐level impacts.Prepare RSMeans‐based cost estimates for ECMs, including implementation, maintenance, and lifecycle costs.Develop ECM packages, including SIR, NPV, and payback calculations.Support and document retro‐commissioning (RCx) measures, functional testing, and deficiency tracking.Identify and document RCM (Resource Conservation Measures) and OM&M measures aligned with LL87 requirements.Prepare full LL87 audit reports, including narratives, tables, and compliance documentation.Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)Build and manage whole‐building LCA models using One Click LCA.Coordinate with architecture, structural, and BIM teams to integrate material quantities and EPDs.Support LEED MRc1 documentation and embodied‐carbon reduction strategies.NYC Local Law 97 & Code ComplianceSupport LL97 emissions modeling and compliance pathways.Review envelope, HVAC, and lighting systems for NYCECC and NYStretch compliance.Sustainability & LEED SupportProvide technical inputs for LEED EA credits (EAp2, EAc1, EAc2, EAc5, EAc6).Support MRc1 LCA documentation and coordination.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment with LEED v4/v4.1 requirements.Design Coordination & Technical ReviewReview drawings, specifications, and submittals for energy‐related impacts.Identify opportunities for energy efficiency and system optimization.Participate in design coordination meetings and provide technical recommendations.Field & Construction SupportConduct site visits to verify installed conditions and equipment performance.Support measurement & verification (M&V) planning and data analysis. Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Building Science, or related field.Extensive experience with NYC Local Law 87, including:ASHRAE Level II auditsECM analysis and calculationsInteractive effects modelingRSMeans cost estimatingRetro‐commissioning (RCx)RCM and OM&M measuresProficiency with DesignBuilder (EnergyPlus).Experience with One Click LCA for whole‐building LCA modeling.Strong understanding of ASHRAE 90.1, NYCECC, NYStretch, and NYC Local Laws.Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical reports.Excellent written communication and documentation skills. Preferred QualificationsLEED AP BD+C, LEED Green Associate, or ability to obtain within 6 months.Experience with LL97 emissions modeling.Familiarity with Revit, BIM workflows, and energy‐related plug‐ins.Experience with commissioning (Cx) or retro‐commissioning (RCx).Knowledge of building controls, BAS systems, and M&V protocols.
