Principal Electrical EngineerOnsite | San Ramon, CA | Energy & UtilitiesI’m currently partnering with a major energy and utilities organisation looking to appoint a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their Applied Technology Services (ATS) engineering division in California.This is a senior-level opportunity for a highly experienced Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading engineering initiatives and driving innovation across large-scale utility infrastructure and high-voltage systems.The role will focus on providing technical leadership, engineering analysis, testing and consulting services across transmission, distribution and utility-scale electrical systems.Key responsibilities include:• Leading complex electrical engineering projects and technical investigations• Providing expert analysis and consulting across high-voltage utility systems• Supporting testing and evaluation of electrical equipment and technologies• Conducting equipment failure analysis and electrical safety investigations• Performing grounding grid measurements and substation grounding analysis• Leading arc-flash hazard analysis and programme development• Supporting development of live-line work procedures and operational safety standards• Leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across testing and technical projects• Preparing technical reports, recommendations and client presentations• Supporting development and implementation of innovative utility technologiesWhat they’re looking for:• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline• 10+ years’ relevant electrical engineering experience• Strong expertise across power systems, substations or utility engineering• Experience with electrical testing, analysis and safety investigations• Strong analytical, leadership and project management capability• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skillsAdditional experience of interest:• Professional Engineer (P.E.) licence• Utility or power systems engineering background• Arc flash, grounding or substation expertise• Participation within IEEE, ASTM, EPRI or similar industry organisations• Published technical papers or industry contributions beneficialWhy this role stands out:• Opportunity to work on highly complex and innovative utility engineering projects• Senior technical leadership role within a respected engineering division• Strong compensation package ($151k–$257k)• Exposure to cutting-edge utility technologies and testing environments• Long-term progression opportunities within energy infrastructure and engineering leadership• Collaborative and technically advanced engineering cultureThis role would suit a highly experienced Electrical Engineer passionate about utility infrastructure, technical innovation and solving large-scale engineering challenges within the energy sector.Please apply directly via LinkedIn
