Job description A brief overview of a 9-1-1 telecommunicator’s responsibilities: Before firefighters, police officers or EMTs arrive on the scene of an emergency, 9-1-1 telecommunicators are often the first point of contact for callers in crisis. If you have the ability to make quick decisions with confidence, coordinate multiple tasks at once, yet remain calm and professional during emergency situations, a career in 9-1-1 could be a perfect fit. For 9-1-1 telecommunicators, no two work days are exactly the same. All public safety agencies in the district have access to the test results, which may be used as a screening tool for applicants based on the individual agency’s parameters.
