Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling equipment to install underground utilities with precision and safety. Your expertise will help ensure efficient project completion while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. Duties Operate horizontal directional drilling machines to install underground utilities telecommunication Fiber lines with accuracy and efficiency. Conduct pre-operation inspections of drilling equipment, ensuring all machinery is in optimal working condition and adhering to safety protocols. Coordinate with project managers and crew members to plan drilling paths, monitor progress, and adjust operations as needed for optimal results. Maintain detailed records of drilling activities, including depth, location, and any encountered obstacles or issues. Follow all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and team members. Assist with the setup and breakdown of heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, and water trucks on site. Support other construction activities like grading, paving, or site preparation when required to ensure project milestones are met efficiently. Requirements Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment including excavators, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, water trucks, Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on HDD equipment and other heavy machinery. Valid driver’s license (CDL) preferred with a clean driving record for operating trucks such as dump trucks. Prior construction site experience with familiarity in underground utility installation or directional drilling projects. Ability to operate specialized equipment like horizontal drills confidently and safely. Knowledge of construction safety standards and procedures to maintain a secure work environment. Additional skills in excavator operation, grader operation, water truck handling, or paving are considered advantageous.
