Hospitalist Physician - Medical Oncology Service (NOCTURNIST) Work Arrangement: Regular Location: Durham, NC, US, 27710 Date: Apr 25, 2026 Job Summary Duke’s Division of Medical Oncology and the Duke Cancer Institute are actively recruiting for a Nocturnist Hospitalist Physician to integrate into our Medical Oncology / Solid Tumor Service. Nocturnist Hospitalist Physicians in Oncology are clinicians and/or clinician educators who provide clinical care for adult oncology patients admitted at Duke University Hospital during the overnight shift of 7pm to 7am. Job Duties and Responsibilities Assessment, evaluation, pain and symptom management, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic recommendations, and medical decision making. Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, friends, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor-friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment. Extensive and ongoing communications with primary oncology teams who routinely manage the cancer care of patients in the outpatient setting. Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the interdisciplinary team. Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements. Work to create a positive work culture within cross-departmental teams and align this work with other Oncology initiatives. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Job Eligibility Requirements Education Graduate of an accredited MD or DO medical school Completion of Internal Medicine Residency Program Hematology/Oncology Fellowship preferred, but not required Certification Board Eligible IM pending or recent graduates may apply, but otherwise American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification is required. Board Certified in Hematology and/or Oncology is preferred, but not required.
