Professional Medical Assistant Teaching AssistantJob DescriptionJOB SUMMARYDEFINITION: Teaching Assistants are responsible for communicating class content to students so that learning occurs, skills are developed, and students are motivated to continue learning and achieving their educational objectives, both in the classroom/lab and in a hybrid distance learning environment. With daily supervision provided by the Program Director. All TA's will be responsible for reporting to the Program Director and/or lead instructor.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESHybrid Learning EnvironmentInteract with students professionally, offering constructive, encouraging, substantive, and timely feedback.Conduct video lectures and/or discussions (using Canvas Studio).Tutor students as necessary during office hours and/or via video conferencing tools.Counsel students regarding their performance in the course (both positive and negative).Encourage critical thinking, participation, and discussion by all students.Quickly identify and address problems with course content or technology.Provide timely grade postings and feedback.In a hybrid learning environment, evaluate the course shell at least one week before the scheduled start of classes and communicate any issues (broken web links, missing materials, etc.) to the Program Director.Communicate with students on the roster.Participate actively in course discussions, ensuring that all students are participating and interacting with one another. Facilitate discussion, draw attention to alternative approaches, and address specific questions raised by students.Grade examinations and provide remediation (as applicable).Respond to written assignments with personalized comments.On-Campus InstructionUpdate contact information and weekly announcements shared with students for each course to include the instructor's name, method of contact, and office hours.Conduct an on-campus lab with a return demonstration of medical assisting skills.Review the online class syllabus with all students during the first class session.Prepare and grade applicable on-campus examinations in accordance with course objectives.Begin class at the designated time and provide a full period of instruction for the class period involved.Leaves the classroom or laboratory clean, organized, and ready for the next class.OverallTeach the depth and scope of class material as outlined in the syllabus and approved course outline.Relate instruction to careers and employer expectations.Participate in student retention efforts.Submit, at the designated time, final grades for all students and maintain weekly grade sheets.Accurately enter attendance and submit attendance in a timely manner (due each Tuesday by EOD in a hybrid environment and due at the conclusion of an on-campus class).Accurately grade according to the assignment rubric and submit grades in a timely manner (due within 72 hours of submission and weekly each Thursday EOD)Attempt to contact absent students or lack engagement and report pertinent information to the Program Director and the Director of Student Services.Attend communication meetings, faculty meetings, in-service sessions, student orientation, graduation, and other school events as required by the school.Maintain professional appearance.Substitute in classes when necessary.Perform other responsibilities as directed by the Program Director and/or lead instructor.QUALIFICATIONSQualifications: An associate's degree is not required but preferred. Five years of related work experience, including relevant training (such as RN, LPN/LVN, or CMA), within the last five years, is required.Expectations: Instructors must be accessible to students via email, phone, Microsoft Teams, and/or Canvas. Instructors must log in to and engage with their courses and students within the Learning Management System (LMS) at least five days a week. In addition, instructors must respond to each student's questions and/or initial responses in a substantive, timely, and personalized manner (within 24 hours unless on your day off).KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESAbility to perform return demonstration for a variety of medical assisting skills (including but not limited to vitals, charting, ECG, injections, phlebotomy, etc.)Ability to navigate and utilize online resources-Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Canvas, E-booksAbility to work well with a wide range of personalities, both virtually and in personAbility to work flexible hours that allow for and promote adequate student engagement (ideally to include day and evening hours)Ability to conduct classes in a remote and/or on-campus classroom environment with minimal distractionsMaintains a high-performance environment characterized by strong team orientationCommunicates regularly with other staff toward defined goals and/or required resultsSelf-motivated to improve the quantity and quality of work performed, displaying a high level of effort and commitmentOperates effectively within the organizational structure, consistently demonstrating trustworthiness and responsible behaviorDemonstrates eagerness to learn and assume responsibility; seeks out and accepts increased responsibility; displays a "can do" approach to work.Shows persistence and seeks alternatives when obstacles arise; seeks alternative solutions; does things before being asked or forced to by eventsWorks within the system in a resourceful manner to accomplish reasonable work goals; shows flexibility in response to process change and adapts to and accommodates new methods and procedures.Accepts direction and feedback from supervisor and follows through appropriatelyWorks when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected; calls in according to policy when arriving late for work or when absent; observes provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act; observes policies on break and lunch periods; uses work time appropriately.TERMS OF AGREEMENTEstablish an on-campus (at least 4 hours a week, not including instructional time) and a virtual support schedule, as approved by the Program Director.Provide your own internet service.Strive to meet standard scores on course evaluations and student surveys.Assist in meeting campus retention rate.Attend at least two department meetings monthly to stay connected.Attend quarterly all-staff meetings to stay connected and informed.Maintain exclusivity to the Institute of Technology.Commit to continuous improvement as an educator by attending trainings and professional development opportunities as desired or as assigned.Attend one graduation ceremony a year.Participate in school-sponsored activities.Participate in professional development as directed by the Program Director.
