JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Posting: Material Process Technician IILocation: Corning NY 14831 (100% Onsite – Decker Lab)Duration: 12 Months (Potential Conversion – Not Guaranteed)(W2 contract)Schedule: 40 hours/weekAbout the RoleWe are hiring a Materials Technician II to support a collaborative lab team focused on sample preparation and imaging. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role where you’ll work closely with engineers to prepare high-quality samples for analysis using machining and metallographic techniques.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform cutting, crushing, and sectioning of materials (metal, ceramics, glass) Conduct mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching for sample preparation Capture and document micrographs using standard imaging methods Maintain accurate records using Microsoft Office & internal systems Collaborate with engineers on priorities and sample requirements Follow PPE, chemical safety, and lab protocols Identify defects/issues and support process improvements Required QualificationsAssociate degree (AAS) or equivalent technical background 3+ years of machining experience (fabrication, cutting, surface finishing) Strong attention to detail and quality mindset Knowledge of safe lab practices & chemical handling Good communication and teamwork skills Ability to lift up to 25 lbs Preferred SkillsExperience with lab saws, sectioning, grinding, polishing Familiarity with metallographic sample prep Basic equipment maintenance (cleaning, consumables) Strong documentation and reporting skills
