Mechanic Helper (JO 25-26)

Maintenance Technician Essential Functions for the Position: Individual to safely perform various levels of maintenance in the forms of servicing, inspecting, diagnosing and repairing of transit-related equipment, including assisting higher-classified employees in their performance of maintenance activities. Perform other related duties as directed. Special Knowledge & Skills: Must have strong mechanical and electrical aptitude. Must be able to read and comprehend technical publications and instructions from higher classifications. Must be able to safely respond to road calls and perform preliminary on-site diagnoses. Must be knowledgeable of and familiar with current safety standards and maintenance recordkeeping procedures. Must have effective written and oral communication skills. Education, Training & Experience: Must be a high school or trade school graduate; with a minimum of one (1) year practical working experience in the automotive or heavy equipment vehicle field, or hold a Certificate from an accredited institution/program. Other Job Requirement & Conditions: Must have complete assortment of personal tools and knowledge of their proper use. Must have a valid Hawaii State driver's license with clean traffic abstract and must be able to pass State of Hawaii D.O.T. driving requirements for a "Type B" commercial driver's license. Must be able to meet standard physical requirements and pass Company-sponsored medical examination and drug screening. Must be highly motivated individual with excellent work performance and attendance records. Must be willing and able to work various shifts, overtime as directed, holiday duty as required, and assume days off as assigned. Must meet or be able to meet all present and future license and certification requirements as may be required by City, State or Federal governments. Must pass Company-administered written and oral examinations.
