Chief Insurance Officer
Chief Insurance Officer — Rosella Brokerage | Austin, TX (In-Office)$150,000 – $220,000 + performance bonus + significant equityWe're building moneyball for insurance brokerages. We've raised serious capital from a tier-one venture firm and one of the largest P&C insurance companies on the planet. We're looking for the person who will own every aspect of insurance operations, placement, carrier relationships, compliance, team, and the data infrastructure that makes all of it 10x more efficient than any brokerage that exists today. This is a co-founder-level role with a startup title and startup equity. You'll work directly with the founders. No board to present to. No SVP between you and the decision. You build it, you run it, you own the outcome. Why this mattersEvery brokerage in America runs on relationships, gut feel, and 20-year-old technology. We're building the one that runs on data. We want someone who gets genuinely excited about mapping NAICS codes to carrier appetite, who sees a rate per hundred and immediately knows whether the market can do better, who reads loss runs the way a quant reads a balance sheet. You've spent 10+ years learning how insurance actually works — the carriers, the MGAs, the wholesale channel, the compliance landmines, the coverage nuances that most brokers miss. We want that knowledge. But we also want someone who's frustrated that the industry hasn't built the tools to use that knowledge at scale. That's what we're building. That's what you'd own. What you'll doOwn the insurance operation end-to-end. Placement strategy, carrier and MGA relationships, coverage design, compliance across all jurisdictions. You're not advising on this — you're running it.Build the data layer that doesn't exist yet. Work directly with our engineering and data teams to build the models that match risk to market, predict carrier appetite, and automate the submission process. If you've ever thought "I wish I had a system that told me exactly which wholesaler to send this to" — you're going to build that system.Lead and scale a team. You'll inherit a small, high-performing team and grow it significantly over the next 12 months. We're going from 5 to 10 to 40. You'll hire, train, and set the standard for how insurance gets done here.Be the carrier relationship. Your existing network of carrier reps, MGA program managers, and wholesale underwriters is one of the most valuable things you bring. We need someone who can pick up the phone and get appointments, negotiate terms, and open doors that a 1-year-old brokerage couldn't open on its own.Who this is forYou've been in commercial insurance for 10+ years. You've led teams of 10 or more. You have real relationships with carriers and wholesalers — not "I met them at a conference once" relationships, but "I can call their underwriting VP and they'll pick up" relationships. You might be a VP of Operations at a large independent agency who's built the machine but doesn't own any of it. You might be a regional director at a national brokerage who's tired of implementing someone else's strategy. You might be running a successful book at a mid-size firm and you've been quietly thinking about what it would look like to build something from scratch with the right capital behind it.You're data-driven. You nerd out about class codes, carrier appetite shifts, loss ratio trends by vertical. You don't just place insurance — you study the market like it's a system you can optimize.Requirements:10+ years in commercial insurance (brokerage, carrier, or MGA)Led teams of 10+Active carrier and MGA relationships you can bring to the tableDeep knowledge of commercial lines across multiple verticalsOperational ownership experience — you've built, not just managedTexas P&C license (or willingness to obtain immediately)Strong preference for:CPCU, CIC, CRM, or ARM designationsExperience building operations infrastructure from scratchComfort with data, analytics, and systems thinkingPrior experience in high-growth or startup environmentsSomeone who knows the wholesale and E&S channel coldWhy this is realWe know what you're thinking. Startup. Insurance. Those words don't usually go together, and when they do, it's usually a bad sign. Here's why this is different:We're funded. Backed by a top-tier venture capital firm and a $50 billion+ P&C insurance company with deep pockets. This isn't two guys with a pitch deck — this is a capitalized operation with the runway and the strategic backing to execute. We're growing. We've recruited from investment banking, tech and top tier consultants, the caliber of the team is real. You get equity. And lot's of it. The founders will be honest with you. We don't do corporate speak. We'll tell you exactly where we are, what's working, what's not, and what we need from you. We expect the same in return. What this is notThis is not a 9-to-5. This is not "oversee a team and attend meetings." This is not a place where you delegate everything and manage up. This is long hours, hard problems, incomplete information, and decisions that directly impact revenue and customers — often on the same day.
